this is my first recording project, recorded with sfp. cause i've never studied music and it's only a hobby for me, i'd like to have some feedback concerning the overall mix, quality, and of course if you like that kind of music.
btw, it's a new little swiss band, the member are only 20 jears old, and called SideWalkPoets. We recorded 6 songs for a demo cd... if you like to hear more, just ask...
enjoy

Thanks for posting this up. It's nice to hear non electro stuff once in a while.
There seems to be a lot of fighting going on for mid freq space to me. I guess the guitars are direct thru an amp sim? Are you rolling off the low end quite a bit (bass and kick)?
What instrument do you play yourself?
Cheers,
Stu.

hi stu
yes, you're right. i'm also not happy with this mix, as you said, to much fighting for the mids... (in the "hard" parts of the song)
Yes, I did the roll of in the bass track, thought we could hear the bassdrum better then, maybe a fault, i don't know. but you must have good ears, damn!! I don't remember if i did a roll of for the bassdrum to, i'll have a look this evening...
The guitar setup:
line6 flextone III plus with ext. cab. I mixed the stereo xlr's with the miked tracks together... recorded in one take and this way:
shure sm57 panned left
sennheiser e-609 panned right
audix cx-211 centered (room mik)
XLR-Stereo Outs from flextone
then i routed all tracks trough one cubase bus to a stereo channel on the sfp mixer, which is panned slightly left for guitar one and right for guitar two. maybe i shouldn't mix it down before sfp?
I'm a singer and play rhytm guitar... but not in this band. what are you doing with music stuff?

You are you're own worst critic like me eh?

Thanks for the info. I like to get the nitty gritty info. I started doing all sorts of elaborate stuff with guitar cab mics but these days I just stick to one mic (carefully positioned) and get the guitarist to double track. I don't always pan hard left and right. Sometimes I'll just do a 9 o'clock 3 o'clock or even less.
A song I did with single mics on double tracked guitars is here:-

I'm still not happy with the mix... but anyway.... (Also, don't mind the dribble in the description. Had to many amber fizzy drinks

)
After listening to some of your later posts I can see where you are coming from so you probably already know this stuff anyway.
Stu.
