Well I was sitting around tonight listening to some tunes and decided to try my hand at some D&B for a change, its not my typical style though I enjoy the music fully, just never tried to make any of it.

This is a sketch some random ideas that came to mind while making it, lemme know what ya think. As far EQ or mastering goes, the only thing on it is Optimaster, which I let the wizard do the job for a quick bit to throw to gether, who knows  aside from that its just bare bones as far as mixing.

Uses? Hrmmmm.

- STM24488
- 3 Delay S's
- Prodessey
- Vinco
- SPL Attacker
- TC Powercore Chorus Delay
- TC Powercore Classic Verb
- 3 UAD-1 LA2A's
- NI Battery
- Atmosphere
- Trilogy
- Access Virus
- Optimaster

Think thats about it, again this is just a 1st attempt at this type of music, its about 175 BPM, 128 Bit MP3, just felt like posting something since its been a little while since my last upload.

Any tips on how to improve the track style wise? Again this is not my normal style it was a spurr of the moment thing hehe.

All feedback is appreciated.

Cheers!

PS> Forgot to mention the EQ might sound really wierd or not hehe, I mixed 80% of this in a set of Sony MDP-V700 Cans, since I was just kinda vibing out to it, cant say for sure what its gonna sound like on your systems

always amazed with how loudness is achived.
what's you trick?

i'd say use a different snare, seems to sound wrong for DNB. also speed up the hats at the kick in/drop or stick a fast one in.layer in some dub sub with that grungy sound.stick a shit load of percussion in.
Just opinions

cool

cheers

keep rollin'

Heya Liquid,

Thanks for the reply, just got to work and had a chance to turn it up in the car on the way, unfotunately, after the build when the grung synth comes in, the bass fell out completely, I had the sub that rides in the 1st part of the track layering the grung synth, but it just dissapeared in the mix, I couldn't tell in the headphones.

I think tonight when I get a chance I will layer a big phat nasty sub over it, trilogy has some perfect subs for that

As far as the percussion goes, I went for an "Aphrodite" style, more jump up DnB style than the true form of the style, I plan to throw some hip-hop vocals as over dubs on it and do some very wierd filtery build's.

This is not my typical style, but I was messin around with the virus and came up with the nasty bass sound and was like, "Hey that would sound cool in a DnB track!".

I do think I need to bring up the volume in the ride cymbol that playing on the bell, it vanished, and I plan to add some 32nd tamborines to make it pump more.

First step though is to fix the cancelation issue I have with the main bass that comes in after the build, then work on the structure some more.

Thanks for the input! As far as volumes, hrmm all I used on this was Optimaster, its not really mastered, I would guess its mostly due to the use of compressions on key sounds that take up the most space such as subs.

Think of it like this, if you have a thin kick and a huge sub that has a deep sound, in the spectrum the sub is clearly going to take up the most space, so for me I just crunch the sub down and boost the kick to get them sounding right, now when the optimaster does its multi-comping its crunches the kick and sub even more to bring more life and punch to the mix, at that point had the sub not been so compressed the optimaster would not have had as much room to expand the track.

Of course this is just the basics of mixing and mastering, on the other hand, I am a firm beliver in too much EQ/Comp can kill things, so since I am not as proficient as ide like to be in my mixing skills, I always error to the side of caution and stay safe with my tweaks

Cheers!
