Greetings,

In the midst of the version 4 feeding frenzy, I have a rather mundane question. How long of an ADAT cable will work with a pulsar card? I am eager to set up a basement bathroom vocal booth conversion (can you say amateur?) and would like to order the 50 foot hosa OPM-350 optical cables, but want to verify that the light will indeed pipe clearly through them! I will be sending the signal from an ART DPS- II which has Adat connections...

Another consideration is that I actually sync to Pulsar as master which is the only way to also be able to use my digital mixer at the same time, so I will have to use two cables so the DPS can slave to incoming signal. It seems that given the speed of light, the distance of the cables shouldn't affect latency as long as the signal can reach.

Advice appreciated.

More than once I used a 6 meter optical cable without any problem.
BTW., most european people hardly now how long a foot is...like me.
you better use (centi)meters

Well I would be interested in how you go with this. TOS link is a pro-sumer grade link that doesn't use glass. If the cables were glass fibre then I would say not a problem but the interconnects are different. That's why I can't simply flog cables from work.
50ft seems too long for me but maybe you can get higher quality enough interconnects that it won't be a problem. Above all, do not have any sharp bends!

If it's indeed using glass, the length should be almost unlimited (it is, at least for fibre channel ethernet).

One foot is aproximately 30 centimeters
One inch is aproximately 2.5 centimeters
One meter is 100 centimeters
One foot is 12 inches

Thanks for reminding me to use metric! It would be easier if the US just bit the bullet and wne twith the rest of the world on this one...

I am indeed using the plastic toslink cables, and I think you can buy 10 meter cables, but i am not sure they'll work. I can, of course run long analog cables, but thought the lightpipe muight be better if it would reach!

thanks,

Thanks for the link Gary! I think that is a bit out of my meager budget, but it definately looks cool... I think the 10 meter cap they mention (30feet) should be enough for my needs though using the plastic stuff.
