When we get to V4, we will need new keys (confirmed). But will you still find your SFP3.1 keys on the Creamware Audio site after you request your V4 keys? I will not count on it.

Therefor - NOW - go to your Live Bar, choose settings, find the part, where you save recovery files. BURN those files to CD or something else. If V4 is not your cup of tea (and your SFP3.1 keys do not stay on your privat page at Creamware), you will realy regret not doing this, if you have to format/reinstall/freshinstall later on.

I hope it is ok, that I posted this here in announcements. I found it rather vital.

Me too - but maybe not everybody. With a thing like this: better tell once too many, than once too little.

This is why activation keys are a really bad idea. It seems that companies are so paranoid that they make it really difficult for the customers, the very people that they ought to be making life easier for... not harder!

it is always a good idea to keep your all key file in a safe place. instead of copying the keys from the site simply make a copy of the scope.rgy that is located on your sfp/app/bin

I agree, it's a bit of a nuisance, but it's not like software companies can trust people NOT to rip them off. Why do you think a lot of companies providing VSTIs and effects went bankrupt? At least with Creamware, all the activation keys are in one place and you can easily get them from a website. In general, I don't like the idea of all the programs we use being held in some central online repository - some obvious potential for future abuse - but I don't see an alternative.

my personal key file is one of the most watched and almost important file on my pc1, pc2, pc3, cd and floppy.
But i think, creamware should have backups of this in case they are converting this regestries to new level. They have to keep this informations at last for ten years (i guess), that's the way it is handled in german rules.
Could be that there is a diffrent now, because the old company was bankrupt, but do one of you realy think, that they will make you angry?

All users of a computer should make backups of there registrations, programms and do some fotocopies of their keys, codes, and so on.
Totally normal!
Guess what happens if your harddisk die...
...and you don't have a backup..
Without keys it would be easier.
Without keys most potiental softwaredevelopers cleaning my street and take care of my garbage.
This are this times!

It was not always that easy though...
Once I used to have Logic Discovery (a version available with Audiowerk8 cards) with registration keys on a floppy - one of my computers was stolen (I lose one activation key) and the second activation key I lost after my HDD initialization After that this program was only a bunch of bits and bytes for me. No one at Emagic wanted to send me a new diskette.... In that example it was NOT possible to backup the diskette. I know there are some tools to "copy authorization floppies" but this is not legal, I suppose. Otherway it would have been possible to copy that diskette in a normal way.

This should be also in the Tips & Tricks forum Oh, and this ought to be placed directly before downloading the 4.0 software at CWA site!!!! I mean if you click "download" a huge window should appear (not pop-up because I always close a pop-up window before it loads and some browsers have an option to block pop-up windows, but in a normal browser window) with the warning.

In any case, I have my allkeys file backed up and up to date - I guess that will work.

as to SFP4 i have always installed SFP new version in a seperate folder from the original one (which is backed up as well) and just have different links on desktop or quickstart for different version.

to be lazy i just copy the SFP folder to a different place, make a new link to make sure it starts up.

then do the "upgrade" on original location and see what happens. if its a disaster i can just delete the contents of SFP folder and copy the old stuff back. SFP is not very fussy about its location. i have easilly loaded old projects with the old version that it was made with.

just go to Scope Settings in life bar.
Choose save recovery files
You also can find this file in SFP folder, App/Bin, as said before.

I burn the entire /sfp/ folder to cd, backing up presets, saved 2.04 devices etc. Everything can be copied back later if needed, after reinstalling 3.1c...

Thanks immanuel. i burn the activation keys(a single file) + sfp3.1c. but why we need that if we got sfp4! is that we need to activate everything? and save those preset? can you tell more please, i'm little late... is the scope 4 is free for all user? seems there old/new site is down

Complicated software has bugs - that is just the way it is. Maybe V4 will have some bugs, that may make you prefer to go back to 3.1c. In that case it would be a shame, if CWA had deleted your old keys form your personal page, and you did not have a back-up. Therefor - do make a back-up
