I often load my sts-3000 just to record stereo masters from my projects. Is there a simple stereo recorder out there for sfp?

There is a similar wish a bit below this topic. That kind of device would be like a gift from heaven. Even more if it had features like: 32-bit integer stereo/mono recording to hard disk, record/play/pause mode, time base counter, fast rewind/forward (all the usual stuff like in tape/DAT deck), low DSP usage.
My projects are usually so heavy that there is no room for hungry STS sampler anymore for simple recording purpose.

I know it's nothing to do with SFP, but I always master into Steinberg Wavelab, just running it alongside Cubase & SFP, by plugging the master outs on the mixer to wave dest module.
Don't know if that's the kind of thing you mean, but it works a treat & keeps it all in the digital domain.
Of course, you can use any other digital editing software in the same way.

The idea is not to master but to record the mixdown without taxing the cpu nor dsps. I wouldn't load wavelab when my cpu touches the 60%... On lighter projects this would be ok...

Point taken, but you can get away with quite a lot by disabling all VUs in Scope, and the monitor in Wavelab, and compressing the arrange page in Cubase to prevent screen redraws.

I see... thanks for the tips, I guess it wouldn't affect cpu much to do as you say, I'll try it out. And I don't think wavelab is ram-hungry, am I right? Cheers!

Well it's writing to HD so I suppose not if all you're doing is recording. It's certainly been working for a long time for me, even on my old 750 MHz/500MB computer

I've just thought.....I quite often record stuff back into Cubase anyway, especially if I'm applying FX or tweaking synths live etc.....
I always monitor via Control Room Outs on the STM 24/48, and by connecting the master outs to the ASIO Dest module, can capture whatever's unmuted in Scope.....no reason you couldn't do this for an entire mix I suppose? (admitedley I have got a faster computer now, but worth a try)
Also, check
http://www.dancetech.com/aa_dt_new/index.cfm for links to loads of VST plugins, some of which you can use to insert anywhere in the chain to record WAV files (can't remember names, and I must admit, working this way I've never found need to try them), but if the cap fits......

The free plugin 'tapeit' does this pretty well

I thought the point of eliam's post was to record 32bit integer while the TapeIt is 32 float. The SFP device (simple recorder) would be great for the above feature.
Besides, the TapeIt is PC only while the SFP device would be automaticaly dual platform, I presume.

hi
i don want rec in tape it
but in sfp 32 bit integer
i use sts3000 but too much heavy in dsp
maybe a dedicacated device is the best option.
only stereo rec and player
for masterin too.
Vdat cant rec in stereo anyway
i think.

I'll give my T-racks 2.04 (legal of course)mastering software to the person who makes this device with the features I need

Sorry, can't give any money, don't have a creditcard.

A VTR (virtual tape recorder) plugin is needed in SFP. The sampler simply do not work for this task if you have to record very long mixdowns, as they record to memory.
We need a device that preallocateds space and writes directly to disc in the way VDAT does.

so why don't you use vdat then ?

VDAT isn't just a simple device. And it costs 249 Euros.
If for example I could afford VDAT I wouldn't use its 99% of features. It would be like using a laser to open a meat can.

Not only, you have to pre-allocate 8 tracks anyway, and you only have mono tracks, no stereo interleaved with VDAT..while sts3000 makes a stereo file.
I would like it too...

Something like being able to say "start recording from input, for two bars at 120bpm" would be perfect for me. I'd adore an easy way to get set-length wavs directly from the SFP environment.
