afaik, the differences, out of my head, between old and new:
non-balanced <> balanced
need to reset after power up <> remembers settings of previous session
noisy fan <> not so noisy
thought the convertors have impoved too

Thanks a lot andy... seems that it would really be a better idea to buy an ultra... but anyway, don't have enough money, so if anyone has a normal a16 for sale I'd be interested. bye

where you from Gockel? if you're from scandinavia maybe this one would suite you.

7500 sek would be somewhere around $1000 or €800.

if it isn't sold already that is...

Thanks to you all... arrgh... some idiot forgot to check this site the last few days and now the fostex is already gone... Guess I'll try to bring up the money for the adcon. The a16 ultra is definetely too expensive, but thanks anyway. by the way I'm from Germany...

Hi,

I definitely recommend going for the Adcon above the Fostex - Please note I have never used the Adcon but I have a Fostex and while it is adequate, it is only that - not very inspiring sound quality from the converters to be honest. I have also been told that it has a latency of around 20ms.. could never be bothered to test it myself, but when an 8-channel in/out converter is that cheap, you have to ask questions... In any case, proper jack connectors (Fostex is phono RCA) and balanced operation seem to make the Adcon very good value.. have absolutely no idea how it sounds though - it could be absolute crap of course.

peace

I'm probably too late on this but we have a Tango for $199 & a Tango24 for $350. Also, if you have a newer card, a Luna Box might be a nice option (we've got one for $350).

AFAIK, the original A16 had balanced i/o's. Why not look for an A8 if you don't need the channels?

I thought i could keep it for later but I can sell it too (i have an ultra, both are good, same quality at same samplerates). by post mail, payment at receipt (at the post office). COntact me for price.

Does anyone already have any experience with the adcon? apart from the number of ins/outs do you think it's an adequate alternative to the a16 ultra? thanks...
