I keep getting stuck notes using only Cubase SX 1.0.6 Build 78 and SFP. The devices that hang consistantly in my tracks that I'm working on are the Minimax and the UKnow007. There is no external hardware.

Any ideas?

Hi
At what point do they hang? Is it on every note or only when you stop SX? Playing live or on playback?

The 007 hangs immediately, creating a continuous drone behind it's programmed movements. The Minimax, usually plays fine for a while but then starts scrambling as it gets a stuck note and tries to return to it once it's let go of the last one played. Tres irritating. I usually have to disconnect the devices from the Seq. port and reconnect to break the stuck note.

It doesn't seem to happen in the same place each time for the Minimax.

I had some of this problems with cubase too, the solution was to deactivate synth out in Cubase when recording midi, and to disable in, when plyback (on that track in Cub)

Hi
That sounds a real pain... Have you checked the midi ports in SX Device setup? I know of the emulated port problem. Make sure you have not got multiple midi ports with the same name and no emulated ports. There is a more information about the emulated ports on steinbergs site. You can turn ports on and off in the device setup.
This may not be your problem but would be worth checking.

No I've already gone through the whole emulated ports nightmare. Unfortunately, I can't blame that. I've also disabled the midi inputs on those channels so it's output only, but I still get the same results. So it's not a midi feedback loop (unless something unseen is at play).

One thing I've noticed is that I've got dbl-notes on the Minimax piano-roll. But it only gets all pissed off until later in the song. So I'm not sure that the dbl-notes provide anything more than an editing headache.

And I've also found that, at least for the Minimax track, it does start hanging at one particular spot, though I can't really find a guilty parameter. I'll scour the event editor later to see if I find something odd, but I don't recall a similar spot in the track where the UKnow gets stuck like the Minimax. Sigh... more research I guess.

Anyone else see stuff like this before?

p.s. for those who think the old synths like the Uknow are junk, run it through a stereo (or two mono if you really want to get silly) double delay (pre-mixer), and then through a LCR Delay as a bus effect, and then mix in surround so the bus returns into opposing corners. For more fun, automate the x-y panning to slowly rotate around the outer perimiter of your 3D audio field. "Holy sheep shit!!" is all I have to say on the matter. DVD-Audio and surround systems really need to go low-cost consumer REAL fast.
