Pretty cool stuff huh!

Wish I had fifty grand laying around. I'd rush out and buy some of that stuff. Or maybe not. I guess if you can afford it, why not. Ya need a room to put it in. Kinda defeats the purpose to buy stuff like that if you don't have a properly tuned room in the first place.

In my experience, the guys that buy into this very high end audio are a little nuts. Not nuts for wanting great audio but they always seem just a little weird. I've known and worked with more than a few of these types. They'll get a secong mortgage on their house so they can spend $20 or 30 grand on a new set of speakers. For their house! Forget about the kids college education. More important to have new equipment

Anyone remember Stan Freberg and his bit "Herman Horne on HiFi" ?
This was from 1957 - hilarious radio skits.

"Here is the equipment you must have. Four 2000 watt amplifiers and ten seperate preamps. A 21 jewel turntable, a diamond stylus, a Pearl Mesta, and a Cotton Pickering arm. The whole house becomes a speaker. You move into the garage"

....ahh I guess you had to be there,

Wow! That's crazy! Anyway, I quite honestly, would never spend as much money as that to leasten to music, there are very good equipment for 1000$, good enough at least, to enjoy music fully.

That's what I think too, although my stereo purchases were always driven by budget. If I had unlimited funds to spend I'd probably go for something better but spending obscene gobs of money on a home stereo seems a little excessive.

Actually, since I started running my own recording business, I find I don't care for casual listening as much. I spend 10-12 hours a day in the studio listening to music and when I get done, I'd just as soon not hear anything for a while. My ears need to decompress for a few hours. It's for this same reason that I don't shop for CD's as much as I used to.

Still, if I had the means, I'd set myself up with a nice home theater system. Not anything too overboard. But probably better than most people might have. I enjoy high quality audio. I can appreciate the difference between a mid-range and high-end system.

And of course, no high end system would be complete without the laser turntable for $10K.

Well I'm sure you can differenciate what's a good and a bad oudio reproductions... It is your job doing it! 10 to 12 hours every day? Wow man, this is a lot of time... Isn't it a bit dangerous for your ears? Or perhaps you work not too loud.?

What sort of music do you do most, I mean, what kind of groups visit your study most of all?

I'm not listening to music every minute of the day. But I spend a good portion of my work day mixing and monitoring. Usually at comfortable volumes. I suppose it's like anything else. If you make bread all day, the last thing you want for dinner is bread, right?

Types of music? Rock, rap, blues, R&B, karaoke, folk-acoustic, metal, voice-over. Those represent the main stream. I do a little of everything here.

If you're wondering about the karaoke reference, there are tons of karaoke singers in the area. Almost every bar in the area has some sort of karaoke night going on. These people take that stuff seriously. Quite a few of them come in to record a CD of themselves singing karaoke hits (just had an Elvis impersonator in recently). I've had some wonderful singers in here. It's easy money. I throw a mic up and they sing. I look for business everywhere

Also reminds me of an old Steve Martin record (the famous comedian). He did a bit on one of his records about people who buy stereo equipment.

The bit went something like this: first he bought a monophonic stereo. Sounded great at first and then later it sounded like shit. So then he bought stereophonic. Then quadraphonic. Then octaphonic. And he kept going and going until he got to googlephonic. That sounded like shit too. Maybe it was the needle!

It was pretty funny stuff.
