It's now day four of my exciting "try to register battery" adventure.

If there are any registered NI users out there who wouldn't mind sending them a little message via their website (I can't do this 'cos I'm not registered yet!) pointing out that their reg. link is broken, I'd really appreciate it.

If you feel like it, you might also like to suggest they check their inbox occasionally, or perhaps wake up, or ponder the meaning of "why doesn't anybody register their product anymore?"

I own an original NI product - NI T-shirt but it doesn't need to be registered (AFAIK ). It's bug-free and very intuitive to use

But seriously. Funny but all the NI software I tried is very promising in design and sound results but bugful and heavy for my computer. See just the free Carbon synth - a part of Reaktor Session - which offers great sound and a large amount of bugs, as well ( http://forum.midiaddict.com/viewtopic.php?t=23891 ). It's a pity 'cos IMHO this leads NI to nowhere


I bought my T-shirt (which is unavailable anymore) at their online shop some 2 years ago and it still looks as new. Very good quality material and workmanship as well as top quality printing. The time I bought the T-shirt was also the time of my planned purchase of NI 4control unit (I don't have it due to the discontinued production - I was too late with my order) - that time I widely discussed the above situation with a sales manager (a woman) at NI via e-mail and it was rather a nice experience.

Well, they had to get something right!

I've found Battery pretty good in most ways...I think it needs a mechanism whereby cells can be loaded individually out of kit files, complete with all layers, else building up a kit using cells from other kits is pretty painful.

Perhaps one day, I will have the chance to pitch this to NI directly!

To date, I have managed to get one automated reply back from support@, which explained to me how much better their support is since it became web-based (another issue I will have to correct them on).

That email indicated that I could write to info@ & sales@ (I'd already exhausted the oh-so responsive webmaster@ possibility), so I've given them both a go over the last couple of days (no joy yet obviously).

Good luck on the feature requests... they haven't updated Battery since it was released (around 2 years ago).

I´am afraid to say but Battery will be no longer supported. It´s closed.

Anyway I can sent NI an e-mail to help you with the registration. After you´re registred you can use the forum at least.
Just sent me an short e-mail with a describtion of your problem.

Firstly, a big thank you to Chris for his kind offer of help & for getting back to me by email.

Secondly, a big "you useless twats" to Microsoft! Well done guys, you decide to make IE6 sooo incompatible with the w3c standards (which everybody else on the web tries their best to adhere to) that yours is the only browser which FAILS miserably on the NI registration link.

(Link worked 1st time using my friend's PC w/ Mozilla).

If only they hadn't welded together IE and the Windows shell, I'd crowbar the horrible thing off my computer.

Mozilla download? Yes, I think so.

I must say that after all of five minutes of using Mozilla...I am very impressed!

The latest crop of NI products have some common elements:

1) Full of bugs
2) Late
3) Never meet box-label specs (Oh, didn't you have a sticker on yours saying "feature coming coon" ?)
4) You will feel it necessary to pay for an upgrade / add-on / enhancement / extra sounds

It's a company I really dislike. They used to be good. Now they're not. Just my personal opinion though of course - lots of people think they're wonderful !

One of the most terrible things I've seen them do is to specify AudioUnit compatibility on the box and advertising, when it's not actually done yet.

Not too good when you buy something, get it home thinking (rightly) that it's going to work because the box says so, and then find it doesn't...

Of the software I tried, Battery was about the best of the drum sample engines out there (although it does need one or two tweaks).

I wanted to get a good VST drum instrument, as a) the 'drumsynth' (eds8i) that comes with SFP is a bit of a joke and b) the STS samplers just don't cut it (with drum samples).

To date, I haven't heard much better than the NS Kit played through Battery - beats the living hell out of the kits which ship with Battery too (esp. the cymbals!)

Try Stylus: http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/stylus.html . Some say it's better than Battery. I know they are different things but the results are the same - drums

this news were mailed to me from NI, today.

What's next:
Native Instruments is working intensely on the
platform and interface updates for BATTERY and PRO-53.
The updates will make these instruments compatible
with Core Audio, Core MIDI, Audio Units, VST and RTAS
under Mac OS X, as well as RTAS under Windows XP. The
BATTERY update is planned for the end of
October/beginning of November, while PRO-53 will
follow by the end of November.

A Battery update soon, I still can´t believe.

from the NI forums I knew an update was coming this year, so now I know it's true.
Great great news, if they changed cell managing it's the best you can have for elementary drum handling, I guess.
I'm realy happy with this, great news from you Chris!
