Seriously though I think this looks good. I'm glad that it's not too different from the CW modules. I think the patches would look messy if the styles were too far apart. The knobs look a little bit like tractor wheels, but realy there's nothing much here to criticise.
But then I'd have to use it to be sure. Oh, did I say using it ? Now there's an idea...
by the way, is there any reason why modules can't be double-width ? Just wondering whether there's a possibility of getting a 32-step sequencer module. A 16-step view is a bit underpowered these days imho.
Hi,
I have some requested as a wishlist to the Softsynth GUI developer as follows:
To my taste, the Creamware-BlueSynth is one of basic idea and example for the Softsynth GUI Design Guide. Some certain functional blocks, where SLIDERS, ROUND-KNOBS, TOGLE-SW,MULTI-FUNC-SW and DISPLAYS being used. There would be some reasons why and what to use its interface...
For example, the ADSR Envelops are required the SLIDERS on purpose for look-and-feel User Interface, doesn't mater what you do please DO NOT change it to other-Controls (like ROUND-KNOB). Maybe someone would disagrees this but, think about Graphic Equalizer, it is self explained why you would not change it?
In Addition,
(1) I like the 5-OCTAL Keyboard is attached as optional used when needed, it would be useful when We want to try out a new sound quickly.
(2) Most of other GUI might be useless durring play-back/Recording, please have a way to hide them all. For example, OSCILLATORS, ENVELOPS,FILTERS,ETC are too much real-estate. And all we need are Program Changed (A display of current program full-name), Effect-Processing if any (Chorus/Etc) and MIDI CHANNEL/INOUT Event-Sent would be nice. How about to display as 1U-19-INCH-RACKMOUNT (sound module, similar to live-bars) alike for each instruments when we needed, be able to see 20 or more instruments (included Mixer) at once. Why? I know most of you have dual monitors (I have triple) but, still not even close enough when we are doing roughly mixed...
In other words, durring the Playback and Recording mode, the softsynths must be compact enough, We want to be able to control and see everything at realtime, it would be huge of time saver. Just for now, might be more later...
Just a thought,
Long

Red tells me there's no reason a module couldn't be double-wide. You might try going here: http://www.adern.com/forums/ (hint: there's a wishlist under the SUPPORT forums )
And I think a glance at the membership list shows pretty clearly who the beta testers are....(top 9 perhaps?) So that's what they've been doing these past few months. A few good Mod builders in there too.
With all this talk about GUI's it makes you think about the potential of this software on something with a tablet PC version of the software.
I wonder if CW could increase their userbase by making a Pulsar Lite software version that runs natively or stand alone on a PC. It could also be a VSTi since this would be the next logical step. You would have more users wanting and knowing 'the sound' except that instead of DSP focused it would be software focused on a native system.
I have 2 Wacom tablets here (a 12x12 and a 9x12) and I've tried using them for music before. Granted having the image embedded in the tablet would make it a bit easier but the fact that its still not tactile & you're still basically 'touching' 1 area of the screen at a time sent me back to the mouse (modern Wacoms allow the use of 2 pointers at the same time but its a lot more cumbersome than it sounds unless the 2nd is their special mouse). Even in graphic design I generally only pull them out when I need to 'paint' or 'sketch', the mouse is still an easier to control pointing device when it comes to computing--at least for me.
