Denmark and Sweden has to play a deuce in their next match and Italy is out of the contest. Must be a hard time for such a huge full of history team, like Italy.
Beside this the Totti thing has happen.

EDIT:
Ahh, have I told you before, that the germans will win the Euro2004?

could 'Zoltan' be a nick of him ? I could swear I saw that on a banner among the spectators after the match...

not to forget the mental and physical fitness of Fredrik Ljungberg - running like mad and constantly involved in 'infights' (even with his handicap) - great player !

and one more proof for the ignorance of the already mentioned german TV moderator:
Ibrahimovic left happily wearing Nesta's trikot as booty, the camera did a close-up and the comment was: ...Alessandro Nesta...

cheers, Tom

well the statistics sure points your way chris but this is a new wave coming!

i'm surprised that NOONE down europe will recognize sweden, england or even denmark as possible euro cup challengers.

football is big in sweden but it's even bigger in, say, france or holland.
however,
it's HUGE in italy, spain, portugal ETC and the reason some players like totti recieve their god-like status is because: that's right football is huge there.

zlatan is big in sweden, no doubt but countries that are crazy about football seem to glorify their domestic players without any sense of how good they really ARE.

the italian league is a great league because of its versatility, most international players would like to end up there OR in the spanish league.
although the italian players are brought up with this, and every talanted italian player will end up in an italian team.
THIS is the italian dilemma!

so is italy or spain better than belgium just because football is bigger in those countries?

aw gimme a break!

only if Italy scores even or looses. If they win, 3 teams will have 5 points and the big calculator's day is anticipated - and I'm afraid Italy will be laughing last

for the same reason our team is ALWAYS a good candidate for a final match - and they can play this game so damn unaesthetically as effective.
I'm setting some hope on the 'youngsters', though

cheers, Tom

One should never discount Germany. Even when they suck their way through the qualifiers, and the team goes through yet another "crisis" they can still win the euro cup.
Thats how wicked them germans are

Wow!

Did you guys catch the Czech - Holland match? Incredible!

I found a new favourite team: The Czech! Not because the Dutch were bad or boring to watch, they were very good and played a good offensive football. But the Czech were even better!

Go Czech Nation!

marvellous, soccer at it's best
final word of studio co-moderator G. Netzer ( with a ) : we can reach quarter final by own force, but if the czech repeat their game once more that won't help us at all...

cheers, Tom

A great game indeed, but a sad ending for us dutchies
Now we have to win against Latvia, and the Czechs have to win or play even with the Germans for us to go to the quarter finals.
In other words: I hope the Germans suck in the game against the Czechs!
I'm expecting the Czechs to put at least five different people on the pitch though, and Nedved won't be playing. They're not stupid and they'd rather see Germany in the quarter finals than Holland.
Ah well, it's out of our hands now...
Anyway, congratulations to the Czechs, they played a marvelous game. And a big FUCK YOU to the referee  We should have gotten a penalty and the red card was totally unneccesary.

PORTO, Portugal (AP) - Denmark coach Morten Olsen dismissed suggestions that his team would play to a 2-2 draw with Sweden in their final Group C game Tuesday, which would qualify the two Scandinavian teams for the quarterfinals and oust Italy.

Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni said his team needs to hope ``the Danes and Swedes don't do too much thinking'' in their game, while the Italian media is rife with conspiracy theories suggesting the Scandinavians will plot against the ``Azzurri.''

``That is a ridiculous suggestion,'' said Olsen. ``We are honest people. We don't do things like this. If the Italians speak about it, it's simply stupid.''

Italy needs to beat Bulgaria in its final Group C game Tuesday in Guimaraes and hope for a result other than a 2-2 or higher draw in the Sweden vs. Denmark game in Braga. The winner of the Denmark vs. Sweden match is guaranteed of a quarterfinal berth, while Sweden would also advance with a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.

yeah there's a buzz around europe about that sweden/denmark game, the italians really do believe that both scandinavian teams will settle for 2-2.

which obviously is ridiculous!
i mean what if the score is 2-2 and sweden gets a penalty shot..? is the shooter supposed to miss that one?
or if sweden is down by 1-2 at the end of the game, are the danes supposed to open up their defence and look the other way when the swedes attack?

sure, i for one would actually like to see sweden AND denmark in the quarters but i'm sure no elite international football team would even consider a pre settled score.
well maybe the italians...

I think the whole accusation is preposterous!
It says a lot about the italians that they even think such a thing is possible.

And how do you settle on 2-2 anyway? I can imagine two dishonest teams settling for 0 - 0 and not scoring any goals at all. But 2-2??
Come on!

I think its obvious that the italians cant handle a situation where the fate of their team might be out of their hands.

What a fantastic game between Holland and Tchechia. And what a blackout trainer. The best player taken out, who can understand this?? And two(!) penalties not given in our game. Is this Verpakovskis fast.
I think one german is sufficient in the quarter finals. This one deserves it. I wouldn't want to have more, at least not that way.
And congratulations and thank you for this "goal of the year", good enough to become a choice as a "goal of the century". I don't think that it was luck, ok, maybe a little bit, the little bit you need for success, but this player is really unusually good. With perfect feeling played, this "parabolica".
Even italian players couldn't hide their admiration. A thing for the jewel case.
BTW: Adds some 10 Mio. for Ajax, about.

Pier-Luigi Collina!

I was quite surprised to find out that until very recently, all referees were amateurs!

I found that difficult to understand - you have all these prancing primadonnas who dive for a penalty and roll around in 'pain' should somebody brush against them earning £50,000+ a week, and yet the person who has to bring all these children to order and supervise the game get nothing!

They must run about three times as far as any player during the course of a match too...

i was told referees in russia earn 2,000€ per game... to prevent bribery. but indeed, in general referees are amateurs (who obviously get paid for their services).

in the league i play football in, refs get 15€ per match, and a few drinks. hard to believe they still want to do the job. most football players aren't that civilized.
your skin has gotta be thick...

unfortunately, i have missed all the exciting games so far. workworkwork (but a fun job it was...). tonight i'm gonna watch the sweden-denmark game. i hope it's gonna be a good one.

have a look at what the italians are up to here
