I just have to say both looks awsome, i never had a prob with the current europa layout either, but this one looks hella nice

both look really nice.

I think the new Europa is really the same as the old one. IMHO it simply lacks character and the knobs are too small. Hate to be a critic

But the SparC is really nice. Extremely stylish - it immediately inspires confidence about the sound.

By the way, the sparC... As far as i recall it looks kinda similar layout'ish to my oh-so-missed Korg Mono/poly (Mp4)... any resemblence at all?

my personal 2 cents:

i'm not so crazy about the sparC interface... it's nice, but... i don't know... is it too real, too big (unlike spirit, i favour the small knobs). i know the minimoog family sounds nice, but something about them keeps me from loading them up.
must be the looks then. and i thought i wouldn't be affected by this

i love the new grey color of europa, but the wooden bar... and the shiny, 'reflecting' name tag... i'll stick to the blue one. class A synth, still.
it's not easy to please everyone.

I'm sorry for showing my ignorance on this, but isn't the SparC just the same GUI as the MiniScope with a silver face plate?

I can't really see anything particularly different there.

as most users should be aware, I have been screwing around with modding the MiniSCOPE for quite some time now. the layout of the sparC is pretty much that of the MiniSCOPE (as it is shown above), with a few changes.

the layout is fairly standard and very Mini-"Moog"-ish, so it is quite easy to navigate for people who are used to this sort of UI-design. Steinberg's "Model E" also has a similar look/ layout, of course.

the MiniMoog concept is a great place to start from, i have found, in that the original MiniMoog (and thus all of its immitators) has a great (and lean) feature-set and layout... great sound with great efficiency built-in to its design (efficiency which actually transfers relatively well into the DSP world, I have found).

although both layouts are basically the same (except the LFOs vs Unison stuff), the sparC's GUI has actually been completely redone from the MiniSCOPE's (put them side by side and you will see)... and the innards are all new (completely different DSP atoms used), of course.

the sparC is still very much a work in progress and its sound/ feature-set is evolving towards more of a Korg Mono/Poly or PolySix vibe. it has already changed somewhat since being posted here and will likely look somewhat different, by the time it is released, as well. i usually don't like showing anything that isn't completed for this reason.

i just posted the early sparC image as a counter-point to the europa design, to basically gauge how users react to a more "realistic" GUI versus a more detailed, function-biased design.

the granular-hybrid synth that I have been working on for some time now will have a very different GUI from either of these, based on how it functions. got another strange little synth in the works, as well, which has no surface at all, as of yet... hmmm better get back to work!

Great to hear what you're working on - very interesting.

The Kog Mono/Poly was my first synth and has a special place for me I especially liked it's powerful Cross-modulation and sync options - it really made the sound. Of course the separate, sequential triggering of the four oscillators and good arpegiator were also great features.

I often think a synth with sequentially triggering oscillators (each able to be differently set) would be a great feature

Finally i can get my Mono/Poly sound back! This was my first synth as well, even though it was 13 years old when i bought it for $100.. sold it acouple of years ago, i couldnt resist an offer of $690:(
