learn from it, Garyb, a decent hint could make you think :)

I couldn't find any scandal, any investigation, any accusation, any suspect of perversion on M&J on the internet.
And that in puritarian US...
That doesn't mean you aren't entitled to have a personal opinion about it, but keep it like that: a personal opinion.
The comparison with an obvious duck is totally misplaced, as you're the only one so far making the accusation of perversion.

About staying on topic, it's you who started accusing M&J, so expect some discussion then.

Btw, the subject of this topic isn't really the question if they are or not are stupid (why would they?), it's about city culture against country site culture.

kensuguru told you that to his opinion it's about personal attitude how to survive.
Borg told you that a tv show isn't really the ultimate source for serious knowledge.
Me personally said that both life styles bring their own problems ánd solutions with it.
Next to nothing tried to make you see the relativiness of the whole discussion.
Yayajohn pointed out that also succesfull city folks placed in an outdoor survival situation would do quite well in a survival situation.

And Jimmy, well, as always, he made his own pesonal view of it, without really taking a position in the discussion.
Only Nestor agreed totally with you, indeed, but he is a blind follower of you.

So, you're quite alone with your statement of helpless city folks compared to hillbillies, isn't it?

I can tell you that all my friends, living in a city culture and well educated and succesfull, are very well suited to survive in difficult situations.

One of my friends took his young sons to the westcoast of the US on a biking holiday intentionally with primitive equipment.

Another couple (he being the first adviser of a minister of the gouvernment) went to the ultimate north of Norway on Christmas eve, with two very young children, and do some nasty things as a three days dog sledging tour.

Another couple took it's family to the Sahara for a 2500 km adventure in the heat of Africa., with the children being 6 and 8.

Another one, a web and company styling designer (good for 8000,- euro a month), just finished a two year job of constructing a complete maintenance-free camper cabine of aluminium for on the back of his Land Rover, see the design picture he made on his computer here under, plus a halfway picture if you don't believe me.
Last year they went to Thailand for a canou and jungle tour, with a 9 year old son and a 13 year old daughter.

Another one, a former refugy from Croatia, loves travelling with his young family with a tent through the middle of nowhere, etc.

I myself invested in a German army VW T3 which I changed into a T3 camper with solar battery feed, to travel through Europe and visit Psy festivals, see picture.

In a city you find a lot of people distracting from the consumer society and doing it their own way, like artists and other alternative folks, wanting travelling through countries without the usual comfort and plaved paths.
Probably the kind of people who run festivals like Burning Man festival and the like.

Does this contribute to the discussion you want?
I hope so.

So the picture is diverse, and there's no need to simplify things.
If you're open to discussion that is.
cheers.

I myself don't spend much time in the outback these days. But I remember as a 8 year old child building huts in the country out of tree branches and spending hours poking a stick through holes which friends then proceeded to cover with more shrub/leaves/bracken.

After a mornings work, we achieved near perfect water proofing under reasonably heavy rain. Us city slickers working with country bumpkins.

Young and blissfully ignorant of demographic distinctions we naturally fell to teamwork.

A side to take..? :-?
There's no side to take, I agree with the OP as I learned my survival skills and even musical skills from country folk like my mothers family.
The other side of the family were city folk who all had their own businesses and between both of these knowledge bases, my cousins, and brothers are a result.

But taking a side, is basically a result of a stimuli taught by brainwashing/propogands tactics as we see the the media and political system use.
I don't see a side to take.

City folks, unless completely dependant on Government and societal structure, usually race to the outdoors in their spare time to learn survival skills, etc.
Country folk like to go the city to test their skills.

But I do feel sorry for the complacent dependants in our society.
They don't have a choice, and w/o assistance couldn't survive in urban or countryside enviroments.
It's also why I am tolerant of Braincell.

LMAO!

now i'm being lectured on what i posted about. i find that i didn't post what i thought i posted.

i'm being argued with about what the other person wants to argue about and then i'm told that i started it, even though i keep trying to look at something else. ok, fine.

lack of scandal does not indicate lack of perversion. being a pervert or stupid are terms that mean something pretty specific, and while their use can be altered and adjusted to fit circumstance, they still mean what they mean.

for example Jimmy, and especially some of his freinds are perverts. they're perfectly decent people otherwise and they don't make trouble for anyone so it's no big deal. you can tell Jim is perverted from the pictures of big tittied hos and sluts that he'd be happy to show you. it's no big deal. M&J are tremendously HUGE perverts who diddle around with live humans and publish papers on it for money, shoving their thought patters on the masses, not just those they come in contact with. this is perversion at it's highest form(just about). there's no arguing this fact. human reproduction and even sex for pleasure don't require their work. people can do that stuff on their own. on the other hand, i don't mind if people want to read their boring papers(real sex being more interesting than a study is why i say boring).

then there's stupid.

this is a different word. it indicates a person who never learns, hence stupid behavior. it's pretty freaking stupid to tell someone that what he was thinking isn't what he was thinking, even after it is clearly explained by the person who was doing the thinking.

the title of the thread is
"i guess hillbillies aren't so stupid"

the reason i typed that was because i have been told about "stupid, inbred hillbillies" here on planetZ. yet, here are two people whose sheer breadth of learning and knowledge about the real world, not some fantasy "lifestyle" world, but the actual world of eating and eaten, life and death, as well as the theoretical knowledge needed to solve complex problems, exceeds that of most people that one might meet in the city. therefore, THESE GUYS REALLY AIN'T STUPID, unlike anyone calling a hillbilly stupid. (unless he's just a stupid hillbilly. they certainly exist)

that is IT. that's all it was about. other people want to argue about city vs country. i participated a bit for fun, but to me, that is a STUPID argument.

the city is easier. it's very easy to die in the city, but really, the only reason people moved to cities from the country is to find an easier life. that doesn't make anyone "better" than anyone else, or more "right", however. in either case, there are important things to know in order to live through the night, especially where it snows. make the wrong move in either place and you pay the price. any time you change locations, there are many important things to learn quickly.

Just the other day the Police Megaphone loudly blared at me saying "Sir.......Please drop the Candy bar and step away from the child."
Our police are just overbearing at times.....

abiut the subjuct of city vs country that has so inflamed certain members of z, i'll say this-
when people need something, people with money buy what they need and the thing they buy was made by others who know about the thing. this includes groceries and services, even survival training. those without either money, or places to spend the money must figure out how to make the thing they need themselves, either out of scrap or from scratch. this is true in the city or the country.

the city tends to be mainly made out of people who only spend money for what they need, unless you count the countless very poor who live on the fringes. when i said that these hillbillies make it through what the average city dweller would die in, i was referrring to this. it's quite a stretch to say that i'm arguing that nobody in the city has any skills or everone in the city is helpless. it's the same way that the folks in this show know about things in the city. heck Spencer "two dogs" Bolejack has been to college and was a middle school teacher at one point. it's people that are resourceful. people keep trying to say either "this guy or that guy could make it in the country, i know that they do that" and ridiculous claims of "yeah, but country people would be confused by the running water and electricity and homosexuals".

it's amazing. there was an extremely ignorant comment about hillbillies being stupid inbred cretins, written right here on z. while those guys are CERTAINLY out there, guys like these two are out there too. no one stuck up for the stereo-typed poor folk, but say something about stereo-typed rich folk like a royal or someone who is in a textbook, even if what's said is true, and you better believe your politics will be corrected.

no, really. hillbillies aren't so stupid. these guys made a great show, entertaining and informative in it's own right. plus it's fun saying "Eugene Runkis" and "Spencer 'two dogs' Bolejack". seeing resourcefullness demonstrated is fun. it's cool in the city, too. there simply aren't any further intentions than expressing that. it's entertaining typing this post as well. my apologies for enjoying it...

An anti-generalisation discussion, worth having from time to time. Sure got the garyb-seeking missile locked on hubird :D

Hey, here's a nice soundtrack for the thread, a band i played with many moons back. Track 3 "Coal Tattoo" on this player.

Special note on the violin solo, a country boy (like myself) dealing with the city :)
