I've been testing XTC again, in a clean boot this time. The CPU gain is huge, which translates in more tracks and XTCi. (is that a new word;) My project contained:
-32 harddisk audio tracks
-Reason, 16 channels Rewire + 16 midi
-my top-10 XTCi, 25channels on the mixer
-16 groups

...and I'm back on 3ms ULLI, using 32flt ASIO drivers! I did not experience one click or pop. XTC presets change within a second. Midi remote? It's all in the Cubase list, each XTCi parameter.

Zero latency? Of course with XTC too, in Direct Mode. I have to make it Green Button to hear though, which monitors via Cubase. Cos I have only one HW Analog Dest, VST mixed to the speakers. The DPMC refuse to auto-connect. Anyone found a way around this? Save it in XTCproject.pro as insert between ASIO Mix channels and the HW Dest?Load a MixMaster to join DirectPlayMixerContainer and the VST mix?

I've set up one OS, on it's own partition, for DAW. (I've even come down to 6 Services;)

(no crackling radio noise but as if ATC stood next to me:)

Interresting to see that XTC is regaining popularity after creamware seem to have fixed most of the major problems!

Nice, AtOmic: but how to compensate the delay when recording vox or guitars? If this problem could be solved, I could really go to work with my 2 boards...(after all these years)!

Did someone else test the sonic quality of OS vs. XTC ? Any further experiences?
I remember a discussion concerning audio-quality logic vs nuendo (same audio-engine in sx).
Seems like steinberg have a secret in their mixers that makes audio sounds better...

strange but I don't notice any differences here but awful combfiltering trouble in XTC mode . and more the gain in cpu is not huge at all it's the same ! I'm doing a only audio test , no XTCi just audio tracks with fx like vinco ,eq etc ..
if I put the same xtc FX on two tracks which are exactly the same (let's say drum for example ) I've got a very awful sound . If I mute the xtc fx . the sound is superb . it's exactly the same xtc FX on the two track so the latency should be the same ? I'm very interresting in the xtc mode ( the automation is much more easier) but this latency compensation something etc.. are too much boring for me ...
I use nuendo 1.53sfp 3.1rc2

HAHA wow, now it's going the other way, anyway this is very much not fact but your opinion, the funny thing is I think Logic's audio sounds better :wink:

Did you ever compare directly???
Only the audio-engine?
Nuendo to Logic?
Try it out.. U´ll see

I dunno I've never recorded live instruments in XTC. I've used OS mode for that, so far.

Can't you do Direct Monitoring? That has 0ms latency, just like in OS mode. I've not tried it yet though.

Direct monitoring is ok - but what to do with guitar or vocals recording? Press the green button on the female?
Please understand: I want the performance of XTC (as discribed above) with the low latency of the DSPs I bought them for - SFP OS doesn't do that job - as I already mentioned.

AFAIK, if you enable direct monitoring in Cubase's prefs, you'll hear gitar->analog in->analog out, bypassing the ASIO drivers.

Direct monitoring is zero latency. Also if you monitor live audio inputs.

OK - I'll give that a try. I'll report!

I tried with ASIO2-24 drivers. Result: If I use 2 channels - no problem! If I use 32 ch. Asio2-24 - no sound! Could this be true? I can't find the direct monitoring signal anywhere in SFP Os! AtOmic - any idea? Where is the direct out signal routed by SX when using 32 ASIO I/O ? Help!

Direct Monitoring is primarily set by your ASIO sequencer.
Cubase SX:
-> Devices
-> Device Setup
-> VST Multitrack
-> v Direct Monitoring

If you now monitor hardware inputs, they should be realtime.

For SFP synths in XTC mode, you can set each synth's direct Monitoring type on the device. Left top, click to shift button grey/blue/green. See SFP manual for more info.

Oh, the blue mode doesn't work for me.

Sure I did that in SX - but no reply on the Asio-side of SFP!

As a temp fix for that 'add audiotrack reloads every XTC plugin' you could add tracks before starting to add XTC plugs. Ie. add 16 tracks or so that you'd use, throw 'em in a folder and you're off.

Cos only tracks with higher numbers will reload XTC plugs, I suppose?

But the same when deleting unused channels
