Yeah, I read about some Abbey Rd room simulator I mean why the hell would you want to add when the idea (like you say) is to subtract ? At the moment Ill just continue 'triangulating' my mixes by alternating between Tannoys, Car speakers, Beats earbuds and the HD280's. Generally if I get it right on any combination of 3 of those its more or less guaranteed to work on the 4th and beyond.

That seems a reasonable approach.

solutions like that don't work. they are simply money grabs.
lock your head in a vice indeed.

computers can help do many things. this is not one of them.

if you fix the room a little bit, and learn a pair of speakers, you won't even need all this stuff.

Ain't gonna happen. There's simply too many domestic, space and practical constraints of my 'room' - Im lucky to have a 4 octave keyboard in there. It really is a shoebox.

In principal I agree with you, but that's where it ends.

My dream studio would be based around a Harrison 950mx, in a room (or two) kitted out like all you and Valis have said.

But for the time being all improvements I make have to be ITB - theres nothing wrong with that, eg I consider my mix sound has improved a quantum leap since using Harrision Mixbus 32C - and I've only scratched the surface of all that has to offer. Still plenty of potential to explore there without triggering off a divorce.

don't bother with programs that claim to fix speakers or headphones. they are a waste of time and money.

Agreed.
