the warning messages are generic, not intelligent.
if i understand correctly, it works with a Cubase restart. this suggests a timing problem, an OS/setup/software issue, although it could be a defective motherboard, power supply or memory. it's troublesome because it doesn't seem to be any of the normal issues.

Well, if its got 2 sticks of RAM, next thing I'd do next is swap em round see if the symptoms change - or run a memcheck.

Well I specced this pretty high, I have a 750W PSU, 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666MHz Memory (4 x 4GB sticks).

The ASIO I've had more than that on my XP machine - also those ASIO channels aren't even active as I can't define them in Cubase (due to booting error).

Mr Arkadin i feel your pain! I went through a complete rebuild/upgrade in January and almost gave up on my new(refurb) computer. My problem turned out to be a faulty HDMI cable it seems cause ever since I swapped it out, it's been running rock solid without a glitch. My PCIe card is sitting in an 8x slot btw.
I think you'll regret selling your Xite, I doubt you will feel the same about the computer....just saying :D
Hope you get it solved
Good luck

Dan

btw do you have the Scope SDK installed? I had to uninstall SDK cause it messed up my ASIO drivers.

no matter how high your machine's specs are, you can still get faulty parts. again, i'm not saying that it's a hardware issue because i doubt it is, but computer components can easily be bad, even when brand new.

I have no doubt I'll regret it. The problem is I have a £2000 box (the computer) which works and a £3000 1U rack (the XITE) which is useless at the moment. I guess my mood isn't helping (I've lost lots of work this year and I have none lined up until May) and I just want this one thing to bloody work. I know I have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but I have to cut my losses somewhere, and the computer has other uses so that's not going anywhere. So for now I have a £3000 paperweight, which if I'm never going to get to work may as well go to a good home.

No SDK here. This is a fresh install of Scope - not even any of the third party and free synths yet, just stock install.

Some more testing:

I reduced the ASIO channels to two as suggested and got sound out of Cubase! I gradually increased and got to six channels and was fine. As soon as I tried eight channels I got the Scope 'PCI limit' error again. I don't know what that proves.

it proves there's an issue with the computer. it might be windows-related. it might be a program hogging resources in the background. it might be a faulty piece of hardware, either motherboard, video card or power supply(or even the HDMI cable if i wanted to clutch at straws).

it's almost inconceivable that the PCIe bus would not have enough bandwidth. something is broken, and it's not likely to be the XITE if Scope starts, since Scope starting means that the unit passed the diagnostic checks that run when Scope opens. as i say too often, the XITE is a realtime device. anything that delays data will cause the system to fail.

It seems you've tried everything you can without any result. I would say it's the motherboard, like everyone says, maybe the ram, something in your new computer, anyway.

The problem, for finding what makes the malfunction, is to have everything in double : 2 CPU, 2 motherboard, ram ...etc... Did you try with only 1 ram module ? Then with only the other one (if you have 2 !).

When I buy some computer stuff, I always go in a small computer shop, where they know me and if I have such a trouble, I can go there and test every part of the machine, as they have all in doubles in that kind of shop...

There is no other way to find which part of your computer is out of order : you must test, try them one by one, and for this, you need an other pc..!

Good luck, Mr Arkadin..!
I'm sure it's note the Xite, it's your new computer, as it was working correctly in your old machine ; don't sale it away just because there is something out of order in the computer !

Agreed - need to swap parts in / out. It will still eliminate possible faults even if the error ends up to be in Windows.

try each of the RAM sticks one at a time, since its the easiest part(s) to stuff round with & not having to buy/return more until the fault proven.

So what is the best order of trial and elimination then ? What's easier than RAM ?

Nvidia High Definition Audio Driver. Used for games. Disable in Device Mangler. Nothing to lose.

Tried that and there was a RealTek one too. All disabled, same result. Ugh. :(

I don't have the problem you're having but I use this device on my PCI-e bus cause the higher end video cards suck power off the bus and even a 750w supply can strain and the other cards suffer. Can't hurt. Adds stability.

the NVidia drivers are usually pretty good. you might try updating it.
i still see the same possibilities.

INTERUM WORKAROUND: You may not like this at first read - but it can keep you working until you figure out what the problem is. May not be suitable for live, but definately viable for studio production

So you have 6 ASIO channels ? Well, I havent used more than 3 (stereo) since January. Since then I have been mixing native and mastering on Scope.

XITE-1D @96KHz can host 4 mastering plugins and 3 voice ProWave.

So final stereo mix out of Reason goes to XITE-1D - thats 1 stereo ASIO.

Workflow has improved leaps and bounds - without all that ASIO redirecting channels from Cubase to an STM mixer, since January I've remixed 25 tracks @96KHz - thats equal my entire output for 2014. This output boost is aided by the Cubase 'Render In Place' function which is a fast way of stemming stuff out of Cubase and into Reason. I am keeping the stems as I now have Harrison MixBus to play with as well.

And the mixes sound better - maybe due to 96KHz or the Reason SSL - or maybe the combination of both - not sure. But they kick.

Hee Hee, I doubt I'll be running anything at 96kHz at this rate! I'd be happy with 44.1kHz.
