It was great to see you again Gary and Greg , and nice to meet you in person Thomas!
Jimmy, I always seem to miss you at NAMM- I guess we'll finally meet some day:)
I also missed Julian and Holger. Next year!
The booth was huge, and seemed busy and buzzing- great to see the energy there!
Nice job guys.

Gandolph only wishes he could organize, mix, record and then tolerate dozens of musicians and there girlfriends.
My X would've been busting GaryB's balls the whole time as she loved acting like a birdog around FOHs'.
Luckily they tolerated her cause she was cute.
But again I must say, I would never wish what GaryB went through, tackled ( obviously ) and achieved in an ever increasing politically correct enviroment like NAMM on my worst enemy..
Hats Off....

Yeah, I can't emphasize enough what Gary accomplished this week at NAMM.
FOH, grunt, groupie, roadie, salesman, politician, engineer, technician, cableman, ego-manager, etc.
It all looked so seamless...
...and the whole stage was running through one Xite!!
He even made crazy Johnny's bass sound good

c'mon Greg... a Precision Bass cannot sound bad, let alone it comes with a maple neck...
thumbs up for the crew, Tom

Maple neck '76 totally re vintaged too since he has all of the connects in Hollywood for comps, favors.
I felt like a schmuck as everywhere I went there were ancient groupies in spandex and walkers, young kids middle aged, 30-40 crowd, the guys a walking PR Machine.
When I saw him making space on the stage I started getting nervous, as we worked together before and for a solo he had sex with his Bass...'
I was the contractor so I am sweating the paycheck, as he is usually wireless and will jump up on tables and kick drinks off and throw his hair around, etc.
I was always worried about being shot, beaten or stiffed on the money, but you get use to the people actually liking what he brings to the stage, and even the restrooms, table tops, bar surfaces, etc.
He actually can play Jaco on his Fretless Precision, but he had other engagements at Namm where the Metal thing was more important.
We would walk by boothes where guys were playing smooth jazzy non offensive music and he would just walk up to them and start yelling at them saying yeah, swing it, smoke it M......F'rs, etc. And instead of anyone getting mad they would actually jam harder and people were smiling, etc.
I have many, many more stories but I cannot possibly find the time to type the pages required, and it's definately XXX material.
If you want to see him google Johnny Rod on youtube or wikipedia and if you find the MTV video with the midgets it's hysterical. FF to 1:40, he's totally mellow there as Blackie lawless tamed with him money.
What do you expect from a Band that has an album called Kill, Fuck, Die....??

It's an inside joke, since crazy John specifically asked Gary for extra reverb and chorus to be added in Scope to cover for his 'shitty playing'.
These guys were cracking me up.
Greg
p.s. other jams - some of which I caught on video - awesome funk band (very popular), some jams from first-call LA session players, and the lovely Cinja singing. I'll have to check back with Gary on the various band names before posting.

Would be great if every one who is at NAMM could ask some of the plug-in and DAW vendors like PreSonus and the like for their plans of supporting OPEN SCOPE!
No, better ask all of them!

had a talk with presonus... didn't seemed interested at all

Presonous are rapidly becoming ego-maniacal assholes.
I tried to get Magix / Samplitude down there, but they were swamped.
Nevertheless they know who/what Scope is, so we'll see...

Great pics. I read somewhere that John Bowen was having his own stand as well as being on the S|C one - or did I misread something ?

He had his own booth right next to Dave Smith's booth.

Maybe, but you could probably just look at last year's pics and get an idea of what it looked like this year.
He was basically just across the aisle from last year and luckily a little further down and closer to Smith's booth, which is usually right inside one of the main entrances.

I think that video is about the best Solaris one I've seen so far, not just in Johns explanation of the Solaris, but also its background and his history with other synth companies, and how he got involved with Scope - he saw a minimax that looked as good as the original and couldnt believe how close the sound was - then got totally sucked into the flexibility/potential side etc.
An old story but a good'un.
