well, consider the dutch/belgian thing something like greek<>turkish, but without mediteranean heat, a lot less heat, and merely at a comical level. mutual languages and culture do help of course. dutch and belgian people do get along real well...

maybe one day greeks and turks can have a pint (or ouzo) and a good laugh over some exagerated funny prejudices as well, just as palestinians and israeli. hopefully, one day...
last week there was a coverage here on national radio about one of belgian's leading (classical) guitar players doing workshops with BOTH jewish and palestinian children in israel. who said something about music being the most powerful language?

I didnt know that Belgian and Dutch people were sharing the same language!.. I thought in Belgium they were speaking French and Flamandish (?, I dont know if the word is this). There is always more things to learn!

I hope a day comes when all people in the Earth feel and act like brothers! But in order for this to happen, every one of us should be REALLY wise! Wisdom brings love, love brings hapiness.

Love to all

you're perfectly well informed about the Belgian language, it's just that Flamandish sounds quite similar as Dutch.
Most differences are the accent and some words, but we can understand each other perfect and there are many cultural ties and societies, specially in language

Nothing strange:
Till 165 years ago the northern part of Belgium and south-west Netherlands ('Holland') were joint
cheerz

Yes, I seem to remember the Evil Mastermind being dutch, and having a peculiar accent.
