Nothing new there. It's been getting used every day since this began. It's claimed that it's getting used legitimately for tactical purposes just as the US have supposedly used it successfully for tactical purposes in it's own middle eastern operations & admitted so. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to get used in civilian areas at all by law though, but no doubt the 'human shield' spin is a convenient way through the loophole.

I can't see the ceasefire lasting, since the IL military will remain in Gaza. That's something which Hamas doesn't find acceptable from the reports I've read & it's something which the IL government probably know fine well. I doubt that the average Palestinian will find that acceptable either given the overall situation there, so I can only assume that they're waiting for an excuse & further 'justification' to continue.

The thing I don't understand is what's wrong with giving Gaza what it urgently needs & want's if that would bring peace?

israel would consider this as giving guns to their enemy. the real fear is that 30 more km in their rocket range, and they can hit all of israel in collaboration with the hizbollah. giving the hamas what they really want would be impossible for israel. there is a big difference between what the hamas want and what gaza needs.

but you are right tho. israel is just taking its time now to get more legitimization to continue the war. but that just plays into the hamas hands.

the only hope for peace here would be an international arrangement that will keep a close eye on both countries, and restoring the legal government and the unity of Palestine (which consisted from the fatah and hamas together until the coo in 2007). living with no formal peace, but in a quiet state for several years, is a must for the peace process.

every time there is war it brings us back a couple of decades.

Really pleased about that Assaf. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it lasts since the events in your area appear to have the most powerful ramifications for the rest of the world of all the middle eastern conflicts.

In terms of mindset, I'm not so sure, but it certainly amplifies existing problems. What definitely has been brought back a couple of decades are the services & infrastructures of Gaza & Lebanon, but that's another issue that doesn't have a quick fix.

It's a tall order, but lets just hope for lasting peace.

Weapons manufacturers should put that symbol put on fighter jets, bombers, bombs, tanks & artillery shells.

It would be a curiously fitting gesture, but I guess the weapons manufacturers wouldn't buy into it. Maybe they could just sign the stuff with 'Fear Not, we'll send Aid'.

really?
because he's expanding the military actions already. he has the same guys in charge of military policy as bush, he wanted to "maintain continuity". he's said that he won't be bringing back troops until a 16 month review, if at all, which is EXACTLY what bush has been doing his whole term(remember when it was "mission accomplished" and the troops would be home by christmas?).

i guess if you liked bush, you'll like obama's direction.

He's expanding the war in the region, and they're already bombing Pakistan from drones.
