yeah, the Nagras have a great reputation, but that's solid quality in the true sense of the word. Not exactly portable...
The OKM mics absolutely require a stereo mic input. That's what makes them sound so real - I once heard some very impressive demo tracks on a CD.

cheers, Tom

Dark, foggy forest ? Sounds fantastic. make sure you post a pic.

Here it's just getting hot again  and soon I'll be imprisoned in my air-conditioned studio for six months. To go out feels like standing in an oven while being bombarded with X-rays. The "bush" is like steaming jungle.

Oh for a dark and foggy forest !

Pictures and audio scapes promissed.
Here in Germany the grey periode as I call it has begun. No shiny sun, cold and the peoples gets depressive. I hate the autum but it has nice colors somehow, then everything turns white.

Spirit here comes an appetizer - last sunday afternoon crossing the same mountain by car, just 25 miles west from the place Chris was talking about.
The pics are just crap, but somehow reflect the mood of the area at 5 Celsius and 99% moisture

I can't remember right now the exact name, but there is a Sony little casset recorder which is mainly used by journalists, this one is fantastic, it has a great sound. Hope this helps.
Sony professional walkman.

Had one for *years*. Bestest little tape recorder about. The stereo mike's supposed to be pretty good too (don't have this accessory myself).

Not cheap, though!

If Minidisc's out of the question, then I'd guess that the only other options would be:

Portable DAT (£££)
Mike connected to (small) Laptop (DTD recording?)

hey folks, some post resurrection. Just received one of the new md's (mz-nh900) to try out.

seems this will do 1 hour 34 minutes of linear pcm (44.1/16) on a 1gb disc.

has atrac option for listening to 45 hours of pop, too

usb, optical, rechargeable internal battery + aa battery caddy.

sounds pretty good so far with the little T-shaped mic that comes with it. My voice,SCSI drives & the traffic sound authentic

I'll test it a bit further and let ya know, but looks like a beauty so far.

Well it took some time for my decission but now I made one.
I bought a Hi-MD recorder,too.
<img SRC="http://minidisc.org/images/Sony_MZRH10_ ... jpg"></img>

It can record in CD quality and can be used as an external drive for some backup tasks, USB, etc.
Reviews are great on the MZ-RH10 and I really like the large OLED display.

I hope the postman comes soon.

So how do you like it now? Anything one should be aware about before buying one of these babies?

Cheers!

The MD media is so cheap. Go to the MD community page. They are very sturdy and reliable.
