I wonder why they complicate the proccess of multirecording in Cubase... I use the app also but at my work we have ProTools and in it you just recordenable the desired amount of tracks 'and there you go'. Yep that's the problem, no signal coming into the Cubase mixer. Hurrah ! Now if I can just work out how to get it there...I could have sworn everything was routed correctly. Give me another 24-hours boss

Yup in logic you just arm multiple audio channels and "go." It's really simple and powerful.

In Cubase, remember to "enable" the tracks in the Cubase mixer. That got me the first few times I played with it, it took me like 3 hours to figure that out (don't laugh!) Small little icon on the Cubase mixer. Of course I'll never use Cubae again heh.

I got used to cubase using it with an Atari Falcon and CBX D5, that's why I choosed cubase. There was another reason to choose cubase: it was a bit cheaper (the time I bought it) to buy Cubase score than Logic gold... I know all the advantages logic brings (the mentioned multirecord, very easy to use and configure midi/audio automation). But there is one think I don't understand almost at all: the way all the routings go. In addidtion, there was nobody to explain it to me (once again, the day I bought cubase) and cubase is well known here in Poland...

multirecords in cubase is so simple. i can recording 16 chanels from adats in time without any problem.
all what you must do is activate multirecord, set separate vst inputs for every chanel and gooooooooo!!!

All I do is route all my cubase audio + MIDI synth tracks + REASON tracks to PULSAR then back into a CUBASE stereo track for mixdown. Everything gets recorded in one take without having to seperately record MIDI tracks to WAV first.

Cubase will happily play pulsar in the background if you enable "play in background" from the options menu. As for recording Pulsar syths.. the easiest way is to record enable a stereo track and set the record function to "Punch in-Punch out" it never fails... just mute the tracks you don't want to hear... this includes the stereo track you're recording to - otherwise you get a nasty doubling effect.

Thanks, but it's just what was the main theme of this thread - how to avoid many operations (all you wrote is correct, but not as simple as it could be). Dante showed what we should have known before...

Activate 'Multi' recording, arm the track you want, and no other tracks will get information. You'll even be able to play from keyb the armed track instead of the selected ones

Atomic and/or Dante : you mean without having to arm **all** the channels : ie, i arm one channel in multi record+seperate by channel, then send everything to a stereo channel, and cubase will automatically seperate and create the necessary number of audio tracks ?
is that what you mean ? that's what i understand...
Of course, i talk about multichannel recording when you want all your synths etc in seperate individual audio channels, not a stereo mix track of all the instruments.
Indeed that would be much better, but i would be surprised if cubase is so clever (although there are good surprises too!!)

if you set monitoring on right way, don't need to do this!

Hmm, what? Direct ASIO monitoring? So how do I set monitoring up "the right way"?

... nah.... I have different setups for different purposes. When recording from analog inputs for example, I don't send the monitors back thru Cubase... I just send them to the Analog outs and monitor on speakers/headphones.... no need to mute the tracks you're recording to this way either... it all depends what you're doing - don't you think?

It's very easy to record the audio output of multiple synths in Pulsar to seperate individual channels in Cubase. Just connect 'em to their own Asio dest channel (preferably via your mixer bus) and record enable the corresponding inputs in Cubase (multi record enabled)

Spacef, I was actually questioning the need to have the MIDI instruments recorded to seperate audio tracks at all.

Once everything goes into PULSAR, the PULSAR mixer pumps out a mixed audio stream of your entire mix, be it from MIDI synths, soft synths, reason, cubase audio, whatever.

I simply take the resulting audio stream back into CUBASE for recording on a SINGLE stereo track, and once recorded, that single track is ready to burn to audio CD !

So if your final aim is a mix to CD, and it can be done this way, why do MIDI to Audio conversions on individual tracks ???

I think Spacef probably wants more control over the final mix for mastering, but I'm sure he can speak for himself.
I do the same... put all my recorded Pulsar Synths (not VST) onto seperate audio tracks so I can tweak them a bit more, add EQ blah blah...
I'm sure there's a better way, but I'm just sad and old and stuck in my ways
