i would recommend opcode x64 as it has current drives and uses printer port midi timing is much better than the usb equivalents
I confirm, printer port (LPT) for MIDI is much better than USB,- at least for PC !
I still use Opcode Studio 64X (for old Mac) as well as 2x MusicQuest (Opcode) 8PortSE,- one of these on my main DAW w/ XITE-1.
I have to mention I use the earthvegaconnection 8PortSE 32Bit driver which is excellent.
Unfortunately they are out of biz now, it seems,- and eveen they offered a 64Bit driver too some time ago.
I still have my Steinberg Midex-8 because there are 64Bit drivers for the future,- but I think ethernet based Alyseum (AL-88) and Copperlan and/or rtp-MIDI and KISS Box are the real future.

That looks amazing, especially when you compare the price to its bigger brother the AL-88 (€165 vs €412). Obviously I'd love to have a rack mount, but for €247 I can probably survive!
Is anyone else thinking of getting one of these? Any reason not to?

Hey guys,
thanks for all your tips and helpfulness!
First: this not an emergency, as I have one working MidiIn, and usb. (I have a primitive midi to usb cable that temporarily does the job). Also, my BCR2000 could be used as a Midi2usb interface (me thinks).
Then, before buying something new I want to check if my ole MotuXT is really ready for the garbage can; I found drivers for WinXp and some good info at
Gearslutz.com), bought a parallelPort 2 usb adapter (€3.60

) and will check if it works.
If all fails, I think it will be the Motu MicroExpress.
Or, some Edirol on Egay.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes I just saw this the other day. I'm going to check and see what the differences are, they did mention something about the power supply. I have a Unitor8 and AMT8 on WinXP and sometimes have issues with the USB connection and will never be able to upgrade the OS. A midi-ethernet connection with copperlan seems ideal since I am using it anyway and that is a nice price for 8 in's/outs. You could probably DIY it to a rackmount without too much problem right?

Unfortunately, I doubt the usb-parallel will work. Those adaptors only seem to support printed protocols over USB

there isn't a USB class device that mimics a full parallel port.
A PCIe or Express card to Parallel might work (as long as the express card doesn't use USB2.0 but uses PCIe.)
