New Drum Rig

The Ensoniq DP4 still has the best chorus I have ever heard for hardware.
Eventide has great pitch algorhithms which are capable of fine chorusing too, but the Ensoniq has much less color for the simple chorus and still can be found in many studios just for that sound.

It's that time of the day again.....yup you guessed it...One of my favorite keyboards...The SY99...The keys have a great feel, 2 mod wheels (works great controlling Scope synths), monster FM synthesis, SPX FX processor, and Sample playback RAM, though really limited memory....and th other 76 key controller, the D70. Synth engine...not so great...keypad, not so great, but a few faders & just enough stuff in it, I keep it around. I have a spare w/ an octave or 2 that doesn't play in the middle of the board (probably a connection somewhere) I plan on doin a Pete Townsend on it when I hold a performance/party in the new studio.

BTW...I forgot just how damn heavy the SY99 is...holy crap. , next time will be triggers, cymbals, misc drum stuff that's goin on the new rig...

Yup...it's that time again. Phase 1 of the new drum rig is all most complete..1 bar to add, and move a pang on the left & the second snare...done...

I will use a product called Linacoustic on the concrete planked ceiling (which is the floor of my garage)...standard short carpet (so casters will roll easily) and then, I will see what kind of treatment on the walls will be necessary...kinda a trial & error, with the whole PA & near field monitors used in the same big room....just different areas...I'm pretty confident, put some up...put more up...take some down...swear a little...then call someone who knows more about rehersal/recording spaces and consult with them...

thanks for the thumbs up G...work in progress...the story of my life... Phase 2 (the stand up section of the rig) will be finished in a week or so.....you know what will happen then.....stay tuned...

D70........................
Damn, I had that and a Roland A90 w/ the MV30 for lounge work back in '91.
The D70 was such a great 4 Zone controller w/ the sounds of a D50 and the Acoustic Piano, Rhodes, etc. I dumped the A90 and just used the D70.
2 x 700 1U samplers and the MV30 was pretty powerful for a lounge lizzard rig....

Nice looking kits your prepping, glad to see other brave souls preparing for battle.

I just like synth action of 76 key controllers...if they die...I'll probably pony up for a Motif7 at that point...but it won't have the REAL FM stuff of the 99...the rig will grow, eventually to become a beast that must be fed...then I start lookin for players, and stuff to do remixes for, or session work...I'm glad you like the design...

Gee, if you used Roland drum synths and a good ROMpler app. like Superior 2 (I LOVE S2), you'd have more room for dancers and such - and you could crank at full volume without necessarily needing lots of treatment.

TD-2O will be the weapon of choice for phase 1 w/ 1GB of additional samples on a CF card Just waiting on the bulk cabling XLR & 1/4 inch ends to hook it all up....Don't be jealous Greg...

a REAL FM is a must imho, the SY99 is still tempting for me... having a TX7, an 802 and an SMD incarnation in the DX200 groove-box.
From time to time I dump old DX7 presets into the DX200, tweak them conveniently with the dials of the box and save back as banks for the TX.
Amazing what textures you can squeeze from such a supposedly 'outdated' technology

Tom,
the doors behind the drum rig are the doors to the studio. The ceiling of the studio, is the floor of the garage....my cars are parked on the floor above the studio...I drive just a regular car like any other guy...I'm glad you like it so far...

the 802 is the real deal...so is the DX7...you have good taste for the real thing...more to come my friend...stay tuned..

I liked the Terminator III girl the best.
When she reversed wrapped her legs around Arnold I found that quite inspiring.
But the French Kiss above was pretty extreme..
