Re: Mic Pre
super high gain pres are usually for ribbon mics...
Re: Mic Pre
No, the seller has a bunch of different types of vintage mic pres. That one you mention is just a custom rack ready to take a pair of those pres, but doesn't include them. He's got reasonably priced cable kits & PSUs for setting your own up as well though.netguyjoel wrote:This one??

Check out the Sound Devices MP-1. It's designed for field production such as television, radio and film work. It's built like a tank & despite having 48v phantom power, it runs off 2 AA batteries. This is one seriously cool little box. The only downside is that you'd need to swap out a pair of rechargeable AA batteries every so often, but with 48v switched off it runs for 24 hours, which is pretty damn good. Broadcast quality pocket mic pre for under £300.

"Possibly the best and most rare microphone preamplifier ever made on earth" ... (as opposed to the moon where this moon man lives). "Was used among others by the Beatles at Abbey Road Studios" (but not necessarily this one). "This great preamplifier with perhaps the smoothest sound mankind had the chance to taste comes at the price of a small airplane. And with it you can fly on earth". Yours for US $1,000,000.00 + $190 postage & packing.

Re: Mic Pre
Greetings; The Allen & Heath Z R16 stretches this topic a bit. It's a firewire-equipped recording mixer w/ what A&H are calling among the best pre's in their range -- I've read rave reviews about the pre's.
Firewire is nice, but what really caught my eye is the double adat i/o's (16 channels in and out), which would make for a lovely SC front-end. What I've been reading about lately -- though unfortunately not quite financially ready to try this myself yet -- is mixing out of the PC using an analog summing device. The Z R16 can do this, and is also a good tracking front-end, and it's got those lovely pre's (apparently). The price is lower than Neve's summing mixer and, no, i'm not an A&H sales person (though i wish i were for a couple days just to get the employee discount).
cheers and http://www.allen-heath.co.uk/CA/Display ... ?pview=104
