Kensugoro, if you installed Vista from a retail or upgrade DVD (rather than from the notebook manufacturer) then flaky drivers could definitely be a possibility. That might be the first thing to check once you've done the basic paces with everest. The reason for this is because Vista's integrated drivers (especially non-SP1) would date back to quite a ways before Vista went 'gold', and although windowsupdate might find newer versions, there are cases where you might wind up with a driver version that's seeing the onboard chip as one device rather than another.

Newer notebooks can be difficult to get working properly from fresh installs using non-OEM media as it often takes a while for all the drivers to be released to the general public.

Cool picture. :D
It reminds me of the picture I took of an overclocked AMD chip on fire. :D
Ok, it wasn't the overclocking that set it alight.

LOL good one neutron... I guess the kebabs are spiced with bits of assembly code?

Valis: I think your suggestion makes perfect sense, especially with my M700 tablet since it's just riddled with proprietary crap. (fingerprint reader, extra buttons that nobody needs, blah blah) I don't really want to deal with all the mess, so that's pretty much the end of story for me with Vista. Why did I ever forget the mess windows notebooks can get into! darn it, these things are so horrible.

You gotta admit, for notebooks, macs work extremely well. Of course, come a big OSX version update, your mac might become pretty much obsolete. Like when they introduced intel chips, my g4 powerbook pretty much got murdered on the spot. And with Leopard? That's like stabbing my G4 that had already been murdered. So it has its problems... but atleast there's no proprietary driver / proprietary buttons / functions / "any other proprietary crap" mayhem. It's more like Apple got ya by the "your happy set of twins down there" type of problem.

Blah, and boy was I upset when I figured Ubuntu Studio wasn't here to save the day. Maybe Obama will save the day. Or.. like, Jesus, or someone.

I hear all notebooks are about the same these days. Just delete the hard drive before you use it and install the OS from a DVD you buy.
