Ok, I swapped in and renamed most of the old ones and they look ok. There's still some new ones that and others that I should be able to tweak. Thanks guys for your help!
I guess I should try to figure out what's wrong with the site on IE now!

warps design looks great!
btw I also noticed the small pm space quite often.
A bigger pm space is welcomed.
Apart from some of the icons the migration looks quite good already.
cheers and thanks.

John Cooper wrote:More space, in terms of maximum # of pm's? How many would be enough? (I just bumped it to 200).
Apparently I need more than 200 then..............
I would really appreciate if you could bump the number of messages to 500.
Since John have succesfully migrated the old design - I'll stop messing around. But you can find the PSD file right here -

Glad you liked them, I'm not a graphic expert!
kylie wrote:there are so-called pm icons shown when you write or answer to a pm. they still look, um, strange

...oops, didn't see... I'll have a look when I'm back at home, some other fine tunings are probably to be done...
The attachment icon seem to me being too high, resulting in thicker rows where it is displayed.
There are also mini icons at the top of the page to be addressed.
and I should fix light/shading effects on some newer small icons, they have a little shade in the opposite light direction..
btw, also the theme by Warp looks very good!
cheers

Thanks for pointing those out.
Fede, these are not in the zip I uploaded. They're in another folder in the forums - not as part of the theme. They need to be fixed for transparency, like the other smilies. I'll take care of it soon.

Looks like I checked into this thread too late, had a bit of a hectic life the past 7 days due to some unfortunate events in our family. If you still need anything please speak up, I've been doing phpbb stuff since about 2000/2001. Handling most of the buttons if fairly easy for me using their PSD, though there's always a few variants that they neglect to include each year (easily added by hand to the psd & slicing info added).
Also, when you can't find the css it's usually because it's embedded in the tpl files.
All in all big change here for me after being away for a week!

OMG, I just googled for a subsilver psd, and found one. I wish I had that before, it would obviously make the button tweaks much easier. Fede, I hope this is what you were doing!
You're right though, some of the items are missing.

Yeah, I realize that. Firebug is a great tool for figuring out this stuff!
But there's still some really strange stuff with IE going on. In the end, i'm not really sure what fixed the IE issues. I changed a lot of stuff, and then changed it back to what it was before, and it was mostly fixed - so it may be something about whitespace parsing. Sheesh, who knows!
Thanks again,
-John

Thanks Fede! Installed, looks good.
In case you do any more work, please rename icon_topic_newest_.gif to icon_topic_newest.gif (remove trailing underscore).
Thanks again,
John

IE6 has
several bugs that can cause layout and
border rendering issues. There are also differences between overall default values between browsers. The normal way for handling this these days is to use a 'css reset' stylesheet loaded at the top of your main/default css file or as the first referenced css file in your html doc, and then adding additional conditional IF IE6 / IF IE7 stylesheet declarations after your main/default declaration. Of course doing that to an existing phpbb layout is a pain in the butt! So I would tend to agree I just hack away until things (mostly) work.
Btw I use
MS Virtual PC (free) with an IE6 XP Sp3 compatibility testing image to test IE6 compatibility (also
available from MS for free as well as other IE/OS combinations). There's also a dll hack method available called
Multiple IEs but I found that the virtual pc approach was a lot more flexible as I can use it for IE8 testing as well and don't intend to support IE versions previous to 6 in any of my efforts.
