Maybe a bit offtopic, but have you guys noticed SPL's latest product?

SPL Phonitor

Because of the various parameters on the device you could listen through your headphones like you would listen to through your monitors.
You can adjust the "Crossfeed", "Speaker Angle" and "Center Level".

It might be ideal for the ones who often compose or mix on their headphones (e.g. at night, to avoid pissing off their neighbours ;) ) , and then become shocked when they listen to their mix through their monitors the next day. :P

This gadget is not cheap, it's expected to cost around 1600 euro inc. VAT !

(I guess I'll stick with my monitors instead ;) )

Yeah, crossfeed is very important imho. Not really a "full time" thing, but it's nice to be able to turn it on and off. I have it on my sansa, which I put the rockbox OS on. It's a rough approximation, but it does simulate a speaker sound quite well. I think I can make one in mod I think.

the crossfeed thing seemed simple enough, I made it in mod2. Check it out if you're interested. I made it in mod2 format so anyone can use it, and left 2 tweakable parameters for wet / dry (crossfeed / input). I should be pretty straight forward to use. The initial value may have too much bass tho, depending on your headphones. Definitely too much on my k240.

About the crossfeed:

what about using a convolution reverb having the response of a good control room?

that would work, if the impulse was created using binaural micing. Seems like the distance between the mics is the key. I would bet someone's tried that before. Worth a try trying to find one.
