Melodyne has been running for almost 2, 5 hours so i suspect Cubase is the source of this problem.

the irq issues WERE a problem.

the sharing with the graph card is troubling, but since melodyne works, probably not fatal. cubase has always been bad looping for too long, perhaps with normal use there won't be any more problems...

This is starting to be usefull!
As pointed out, i ran Melodyne for almost 2,5 hours, then i started Cubase with a new project - imported a couple of wavefiles - and i let it run for a little over 1 hour.
Now i changed Scope project to the one i used when the crashes appeard and opened Cubase again - this har now been playing for 2 h 10 m.
But i did rebuild that Scope project, as i suspected there where some issues with it .

Now i just started one of the old Cubase projects (one of those who crashed)
.......just a little hopefull

Anyway i'm sure dissabling some of the stuff helped a lot
and i will keep an eye on this.
Thanks so far friends - i'll keep you updated

edit - It crashed while i inserted Vinco - I'll try to loope without fx for a while.

Well a little bit better - Cubase running 2hr and 5 min to crash (no fx to blame)

Is there something else i can dissable from IRQ?
Garyb was talking about a RAID driver, Is it one of those on the new list?

yeah, i think it's the Jmicon controller.

is SATA set to IDE in the bios?

thx garyb - now i disabled the Jmicon controller from BIOS

SATA is set to IDE

From BIOS:
PCIE Spread Spectrum - AUTO/DISABLED (it is set to AUTO)
FSB Strap to North Bridge - AUTO/200MHz/266MHz/333MHz (is set to AUTO)

Some of this it is worth to change?

i'd leave that alone.

what do you have now?

not too good - it just crashed after a couple of minutes, so i will update all programs and plug-ins to be shure there is no license error.

If its still the same - i think i will disconnect 2 of the soundcards and try from there.

how does it crash?
is it a blue screen?
do you get any messages?
or is it just like suddenly blackscreen and reboot?
if you have any error messages post them here, sometimes you can see if it is a hardware conflict or something else.
how are your hds connected?
as far as i remember the jmicron-controller is for the ide bus.

The screen stalls, no mouse or keyboard reaction, sound is choped (approx 2 bop a second) , there is no cpu spike and VU meters on both Cubase and Scope works as normal :D - but its the only bormal thing too.
Don't seems Windows count it as a crash, no pop-up telling there has been a seriouse ... - so no messages at all.
or is it just like suddenly blackscreen and reboot?
NO

2 x SATA (WD 120GB = C:`\ and WD 160GB is F:\ and G:\

connected to SATA 1 and 2 - each has own power from PSU
as far as i remember the jmicron-controller is for the ide bus.
Yes and no - there was 3 choice in BIOS - RAID/IDE/dont remember

I added a wave source to the Scope project i've been using, and have played Mediaplayer for a long time now, and keep it playing some more hours.

I foud this luigicampala
At the bottom under 'powermanagement' find the 'reset board if idle' setting and make sure its UNCHECKED.
This was checked - so now i will restart and ....hope

naturally, you've checked for active sensing, no?

the shared irq with the video card could be a showstopper for that slot.

What is that? - I can't remeber :-?

I found on Steinbergweb:
Set Processor scheduling to background services
(witch i did, but on wrong PC - on this  ) - i'll try it on the other one.

active sensing is something your midi controller may put out. if so, it will certainly clog midi buffers and make your computer freeze.

if your problem occurs when a midi controller is connected, checkiing for active sensing is a good idea and it's simple. in the Scope routing window, place a midi monitor(in the midi menu) in the project, connect your midi source to it, open it, and see if active sensing is listed. if it is, first attempt to disablew active sensing in the controller. if you can't disable it in the controller, connect a midi filter(from Scope's midi menu) in between the card's midfi source and the sequencer's midi destination.

I'll check active sensing tomorrow, garyb

With all tweaks so far, it took about 14min before it crashed again.
So tomorrow i will try without any midi, if its still bad i think i gonna remove at least 2 of the cards. If it still behave bad, i might install Winxp in std mode.

other ideas?

well, probably taking one card out would help most. the vid card sharing an irq is not usually a good thing. perhaps standard pc will help, but many new motherboards really should be in ACPI. if all else fails the intel DP35DP works great with three cards(as do most current intel offerings) and it's cheap(about $125 here in the USA). i have been disappointed in many companies' choices of late. since most consumer peripherals are usb, motherboard design has become especially thoughtless lately.

Thats why i stay far away from asus these days..they have gone from great to pants in the last 5 years :-? Msi and Gigabyte and intel. That are my options these days..

That's funny, according to the specs of a few webshops I found, the DP35DP only has 2 PCI slots.
But most of the webshops say that the DP35DP actually has 3 PCI slots, is that correct?!
In that case I will buy that one instead of the P5K, which I was going to buy in 2 months for my 3 scope cards...

edit: Never mind, after finding another dozen of specs from other webshops, it's clear the mobo contains 3 PCI slots. Great! (sorry for hijacking.. )

Last try!
I removed all cards - restarted. Then i installed the main card many times, but it always appear on IRQ 16 and the option to change that is greyed out.

Still got crash after just some minutes, so this is probably going to end
....with a new MB - I found the intel DP35DP for kr 803 incl vat in Norway - almost the same price as you mentioned garyb (+ 25% vat of course - our beloved)

I think the only "saver" now is to find a way to change IRQ
I guess there is no such cutoff???? :o

edit - active sensing turned off (was indeed on) - so there is still a tiny tiny tiny.............hope
