Brotha' Man Shroomz II, formerly known as Shroomz,
I didn't know you cared for jazz. That's great. It's like Escargot, an aqurred taste. But those early Zawinul years were such a contrast compared to Miles, Weather Report, etc. That's why he stands out, as wherever, and whoever he played with benefited, and vice versa.
I have never mourned a fellow player as much as I mourn him. It's sad to think we will not hear anything new, but we will probably have a tribute from Columbia records pretty soon, if they still have any heart and soul left that is.
Thanks For Your Link,

Top show as usual from Gilles. Some real nice tunes.. a new Herbie tune featuring Tina Turner (!) at the end...

strange it is, the sound of the horn theme in the first clip (Directions) reminds me so much every now and then to Softmachines 'Third' which I loved so much.
could be the used combination of instruments, maybe also the time spirit, dunno.
I know Miroslav Vitous only from his sample works, a nice surprise to see him in that clip

A few more:

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/se ... on-d_music
I listed the videos in my original post in roughly chronological order... it's really amazing to see the progression in WR from the early days when there was still a lot of acoustic instruments used and some of the music verged on free jazz, to the heavy groove stuff done with Alphonso Johnson, maybe getting less groove-based when Jaco joined (that's not to say they weren't still funky). I love virtually everything they did in that period up to the Heavy Weather album, obviously they had some great musicians but Zawinul seemed to direct the vision of the group throughout.

Hub - Miroslav was one of the major bassists in the 70s! He released some nice solo stuff and played on a LOT of records back then.

(this discography doesn't even list one of my favourite albums with Vitous playing bass, 'Earthquake Island' by John Hassell).

Obviously you never considered the fact that I don't care that you think that nobody cares what I think.

didn't know M.M. was that famous befor he got famous

John Hassel? long time ago I heard that name, he's somewhere on my old cassette collection
I don't like fusion, I said that earlier in this thread, but you can't bulli someone of the calibre of Zawinul.
Must say I like the early 'free'jazz stuf a lot more that the famous classic WR stuff, not to say I hate them
nice it also was to see a such young Wayne Shorter, I'm really getting old if I see him that way

@Jimmy V,
I'm no expert on Jazz, but I really like a lot of what I hear, especially the funkier tunes. I listen to Giles Peterson & find it quite inspirational TBPH.

It's always good as a final retort to call someone an insulting name. That makes it clear to all how mature you are. How cowardly to belittle me and then run away.

Keep it up, troll. Troll is not an insulting name, it's simply a description of what you are. If you choose to take it as an insult, then it shows that you know there's a problem with your behaviour.

If someone doesn't have the exact same taste as you, then just accept it. You don't have to take it as a personal attack. You should seek help with your anger issues.

No anger here... just amazement that someone can be so dedicated to spreading unpleasant vibes and taking pleasure from it. Well if it gives you kicks, who am I to tell you to stop.
