Ha - that must have been you Gary was talking about last week. I had him on the phone a few times whilst finalizing the purchase of my new Scope Pro board. He mentioned he was in Lost Wages working on someone's computer.

Thanks manfriday for the tip on the floppy drive.

There is only one other piece of strangeness: I didn't realize there was a built-in VGA graphics adapter on this board. Is there anything I need to do to disable or change that in BIOS. I mean I'm not using it and have no intention of using it. Also, I keep getting this pop up balloon notification from my NVidia software - something about SLI multi-GPU rendering not working right or something to that effect. Mean anything to you guys?

Nope, just slap the other video card in and the onboard VC should be disabled.

I have seen that as well in the past... here is a link to a article about it on nvidia's website

On another note,
Hey I live down the street from you! small world!

on the usb controllers that are sharing:
in system information-hardware-conflicts/sharing you'll see a usb entry on the same irq as the scope card. it will have a name like 2EY7D. open the device manager, expand the usb section, find the controller with that name highlight and choose disable at the top, or right click and choose "disable". that board has like 6 or so controllers so disabling up to 4 should be no problem at all. all your ports should still work.

Thanks Gary - and now I'm back with one more bit or trouble.

Everything else working fine except my DSL internet connection. I know I'm pushing my luck coming here with this stuff but any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I can access the internet. I am here now. But the problem is when I reboot the computer, and immediately try to log on to the internet, it takes about a minute or a minute and a half for the login screen to appear. The PC seems lockjed up or something. I can't even open the network config screen from the control panel. Once I get past that initial delay, all seems fine. I can log on and off without a problem. But reboot again, and it's the same problem again.

I am sure I have something not configred right in WinXP but what could it be? My DSL modem is connected directly to the ethernet port on the back of the PC. Other end to the telephone line. I know it works because it worked fine pre-upgrade. Could it be this built-in ethernet card not working right? Or any suggestions would be helpful. Even SBC/AT&T tech was perplexed. I reinstalled WinXP (again) and still nada. No other apps installed (not even Norton). A completely fresh install.

This is a dual boot setup. My recording OS partition and all that work fine. But my office/internet partition are a mess until I can get this cleared up.

Thanks in advance - again!

Sorry disregard previous post. I called Intel and they directed me towards the support and download area of their website for the latest and greatest drivers and firmware updates. Should have done that anyway. But installing the latest and greatest of everything solved the problem.

It's never easy :-)

Now I have to fine tune the system. I had a BSOD yesterday while working in Sonar 6. That's the first time I've ever seen a BSOD in Sonar. This system has changed so drastically, I have to get familiar with a new set of tweaks and whatnot. I also noted some pops and crackles. I have WinXP Pro installed in normal mode with some of the more general purpose ausio tweaks. I diabled the USB stuff from IRQ for the Scope boards. Haven't touched the swap file. Is there anything specific I should maybe be looking at to improve performance?

I was running 40 tracks of audio yesterday with hardly any impact on the host processor so that is good. Working at 24 bit 44.1K. Scope latency at 4ms. Maybe I should experiment with that?

Thank sagain for all your help!

GaryB is going to be coming back again and again. I consider all of my DAW's as vintage Porsche's. So they use more oil, and need to be worked on by experts. That is why GaryB is fast becoming a fixture here in Las Vegas. I think next time I will surprise him w/ room service, and some strippers, he deserves it.
All kidding aside. My DAW's ( 3 ) must work flawlessley as they are all 4 live shows. GaryB says you should buy this, I use to say how much, now he has Carte Blanche on anything required. He knows his shit, it's that simple.

I am going to build a 4th DAW whenever Creamware goes w/ PCI-e. I would say by this fall. If longer, no problem. I just have a good vibe, that they are not just smacking their schwanzes around, but brewing up something new. Afterall, the ASB's have new DSP chips don't they? Well my imagination says my future is stable w/ GaryB, and Wolf, Ali, and the body of Ralf.

As Ali Once Said,....................." We Stay With Our King."

try messing with the i/o buffer size in the audio prefs in sonar to eliminate clicks.

as to the bsod, not sure there. hardware or driver probelms are usually to blame there, i doubt that's an issue,. some kind of data corruption is possible. all cards and connectors are well seated, no? no fingerprints on gold connectors? well, while tweaking around i guess one blue screen's no big deal. two however.......how about the grfx card driver? is that the latest? maybe with the new motherboard drivers, you should reinstall the video driver, even if it's with the same one. you had the annoying video driver message, there is a later version available than the one that gives that message.....

Just a follow up to thank you guys for your help. Everything has been resolved. My Sonar problems were the result of a corrupted install which seems to plague a lot of Sonar users. It's my impression that Cakewalk's program installer sometimes gets confused and you have to manually remove the program and reinstall it to get it to work properly.

I like Sonar but there have been so many bugs and annoyances introduced along the way, it's starting to get on my nerves. I've been contemplating a move to Cubase for no other reason than to try something else to see if it works better. We'll see.

Anyway, as far as the system is concerned, it is truely stable and a real powerhouse. Thanks for steering me towards a really fine system that should suit my needs for a good long while. Scope Pro is amazing of course. All that extra headroom :-) Coolio.
