The room response will color more than the variation in speaker specs.
Thats absolutly true , Tom. I aggree.
And finally the quality of a speaker is not only limited to its frequency response. Often cheap speakers are fixed to sound linear at the cost of precise detail and fine resolution and audible depth...
buying a speaker pair is an extremly subjective decision.
And while monitor speakers should by definition all sound the same .... in reality they do not.
so listening is a must, unless you are not trying to gather many speaker pairs and waste a lot of money....

right on target. everyone's always looking for a new product to buy and forgetting the most important part of the studio, the room. much better to do something about the room than to worry about which speaker.

I have Events and like them. I know they are not the best. Recently someone told me he had Boss monitors and I told him they sucked. He was very offended. I felt bad. I guess everything is relative.

Nice to see a few PMCers here. i have some TB1-Ss and i would only ever replace them with the newer TB2-Ss or bigger monitors from them. i need never bother auditioning monitors again now ( i run them off a Bryston power amp - nice).

but I have the same problem as you in that if I upgrade it'll be to one of the larger pmc systems rather than a different brand so $$$$$$$. Anyway Back OT.

Hello,
Thanks for all your responses so far. Just in case you are interested, I think I will settle for the Genelec 8020. I auditioned quite a few, including significantly larger monitors and found the Genelecs the most favourable. Even the bass end for such small speakers matched or even bettered the larger ones. No doubt the room acoustics affect the sound and won't exactly be the same in my room as they were in the shop.
They will nicely complement my Mackie 824s.
