..and are simply called hair cell-nerves.
Our ear is a very interesting organ.
Through the seminar, a thought captured me:
We have this`cocktail party effect´, when we are surrounded with lots of people, we are able to follow one voice, we filter it out and put our concentration on this single voice and suppress the other noises.
Would be a great start to build filters in the audio tech world, to extract single instruments, or a melody or voice out of a whole music track.
The only thing we have to understand is, how our ear can do this.
It is definitely proofen that our hearing gets damaged, for example, when you use a driller (ca.100dB)for aprox.15min. without any protection. Our pain barrier start at aprox. 120dB.
Sure some conditions influence the imagination of pain, what frequence, how long, our mood, are we prepared for the noise or does it comes suddenly. But it is physically given that a high sound pressure damages our hearing.

Hey Gary I had a dc300 after the beast . I used a showman for the tone circuit . It wasn't driving the right speaker set up tho . As you say it was early days for P.A.s and I had these 2 massive w bins with 2jbl k140's apiece and I reckon it would have worked better with 2 dc300 and 8 jbls in small individual reflex bins . Anyway thats all history isn't it

. I wouldn't mind that crown right now actually .
I think they are called cilia Tom ...just imagine we've got theses things designed for moving single cell thingos around in our ears!!! just for digging music . oh it's a strange universe isn't it.the cosmic spare parts bin

Cheers
Paul

The last couple of clubs I've been at were loud to say the least, but turning down the volume is not what these clubs are about. Turning up the volume is what's held in reserve as a secret weapon. That's reffering to club nights playing virtually any sort of electronic dance music. Even relatively small club venues are packing 8-12k surround rigs these days. Big club events in larger enclosed spaces are regularly packing 24k rigs. AFAIK the purpose of such insanely powerfull PAs is to move your internal organs.

i LOVE it loud, especially in those situations, but there is a difference between loud and clear and painful......
the bravado of louder is just stupid after a point. if people want more, that's great. when they start moving to the back of the room or outside, or when a good mix becomes impossible without feedback however.....

An interesting concept 4 Audio. I have had to do some pretty shitty, but well paying gigs in Las Vegas, where the music is near the gambling areas. These gigs usually require applause patches on my lowest notes of my controller. This reminds people that musicians are playing so they too can clap, as it is an effort to stop playing video poker, set your drink down, put your smoke in your mouth, then put hands together. A daunting task no doubt, but I refuse to be silent and yell thank you with the Phil Collins accent,...Ankyu,..Ankyu. I was inspired to invent the ghost channel slider on our FOH board. It is a very tricky audio deception. Occasionally some asshole loses a green (25 dollar) chip, and tells the pit boss to turn the band down, purely out of displaced aggression though. So as he approaches the FOH engineer we are ready. He simply moves down a slider which has nothing bussed to it, but the sound man will turn around and give the O.K. sign, and wouldn't you know it. The pit boss then nods in agreement as if an actual attenuation has taken place. Now you know why I jumped at the chance to play the big new dance club this summer's end. Big surround sound PA, and laser lights, etc. As I am an old bastard I look back at the Phil Collins Video in the '80's, Sussudio. Anyone remember that tune. Well that's what playing in a Casino lounge is like. No,..Please stay seated. It's actually like this,..... Hey don't break your hands.

I see you can relate piddi. I use to howl at that video as I was opening for Major US bands then, and never thought I'd star in my own version of the video years later. It was a good experience 4 me as it only made me work harder. Ankyu,...Ankyu.
