Our ear is a very interesting organ.
Through the seminar, a thought captured me:
We have this`cocktail party effect´, when we are surrounded with lots of people, we are able to follow one voice, we filter it out and put our concentration on this single voice and suppress the other noises.
Would be a great start to build filters in the audio tech world, to extract single instruments, or a melody or voice out of a whole music track.
The only thing we have to understand is, how our ear can do this.

It is definitely proofen that our hearing gets damaged, for example, when you use a driller (ca.100dB)for aprox.15min. without any protection. Our pain barrier start at aprox. 120dB.
Sure some conditions influence the imagination of pain, what frequence, how long, our mood, are we prepared for the noise or does it comes suddenly. But it is physically given that a high sound pressure damages our hearing.
