Yep!
H5N1 - You all will die!
Something REALLY scary!
good point, Zer - illustrates perfectly what media hype is capable of...
the medical facts are known for decades and are pretty simple anyway. It's a simple as to predict there will be snow above a certain height or below a certain temperature.
The infection mechanism is a natural matter of facts and exists far longer than mankind.
We just improve statistical conditions by keeping (insanely) lots of poultry tighly together and modern travel shortens infection path.
But is there any reason to panic ?
The media hype will not change anything at all, as people are greedy, stupid and/or completely self-focused.
Eventually it's nothing but a little gas to keep the media engine going.
As is Nestor's enumeration of hot countries:
USA, England, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, India, China, old URS, Israel, etc., etc.,
I really do regret all those fatalities that often affect people who never intended to get even remotely near a conflict area - yet all those events don't even cause the slightest bumb in any statistics about mortality in those countries.
Call it cynical or not - the fact remains
What makes it big is the media transmission and HOW things are 'elaborated'.
Ideas often spread like physical infections...
the earth has never been a safe place, ask a dinosaur - we may be hit by some 10km thing of cosmic debris or the sun may simply 'burb' (who tells you it will 'always' be as quiet as it seems to be ?)...
It's not even certain that it's 'civilization' gas emissions, methan from the oceans or simply another program in the fusion reactor a 100 million miles away that causes global warming.
But whatever it is - we should treat nature with respect, everyone in his personal environment (which is sometimes reaching farther than one would realize at a glance only).
Otherwise I'm afraid that Nestor's prediction will become very true - not because we've spoiled it, but because we do not match anymore
cheers, Tom

What I say by "giving up" is that nations don't want to give up in their extreme interests and powers... and if they would, troubles would easily stop. It's like a deal, you pay something and somebody gives you something in exchange, but it seems that today nations want everything for free, so they destroy each other to get it by force, as they are anable to deal and negotiate. This is what I mean.On 2005-11-01 03:06, skwawks wrote:
Hey Nestor...what do you mean no one wants to give up ??
Like ,are you trying to tell me that an ex nomad who knows all about sheep has got the right to tell me how to live my life ?
A child corrupted by twisted vicious defeated minds has the right to tell me what to believe in ?
Cos if thats what you are saying... well too true sonny ...I am NOT giving up.
They can have their sheepies , they can have their beliefs and I'll have mine and if they dont like that attitude well then I guess life will squash them wont it . I'm sure you underdstand that that's what has and will continue to happen .There is NO nobility in ignorance .O.K. there is a fight on .Do you think a Whahabi world is a place worth being in . I think not! Bring on the Hydrogen cells and F**k 'em
Of course, nobody can agree with being told what to think, but there are nation that go well beyond this, killing people before they can even think.
We need to change the way we understand life, all of us, if we want happines and being able to survive ahother 100 years in this planet.
I understand very well your fillins, and respect them, but I am sure that if you were to press THE BOTTOM and see what you have done, you would suicede ou you would die of saddness, because bombs and terribly things of the like, the only thing they do is doing what is bad, much, much worse.
