Not sure about Opera but in Firefox (Mozilla) you just middle click. There is also a tool u can install so double clicking replaces middle click to close tab.
I still use IE for my 'regular' sites that I trust and visit daily, Firefox for stuff that's not so trusted.

In Opera, just right click on a folder where are the sites listen above the url window and click close all.(two clicks, or CTRL+Shift+W)
Another nice function in Opera is, when it somehow shut down and you restart Opera again, you can restart with all pages from the last session, if you want.
But, hey ALT+4 is aprox. as fast as a mouse click.
ANother nice function is the handling of the passwords, Opera stores your Username and Password for any site you have to use passwords, of course. But you can insert them by just press CTRL+Return.
For example I write the reply now and I am not logged in, when I finsih the reply, I just press CTRL and the Return button.

And I try to avoid placing anything liquid on my desktop. Once I put a long dring (ONLY ONCE!) and of course it has shed on my computer keyboard! And Mac keyboards are not 5 Euros!
