Well,
It looks as if Stoke on Trent is the centre of the universe after all

Whereabouts in Stoke are you folks familiar with?

Ahhh, and I was wondering that a strange spirit lies above Stoke. Now everything is much clearer for me...

It's more likely to have been your Grandad - it's only been a city for about eighty years!
Is there still a big pottery industry there?

Beautiful trike, isn't it!
If you know a word for ages you don't see the etymology of it but when the word you see is quite different you realize why: bicycle - 2 wheels, tricycle 3 wheels! I know it's obvious for you English language guys but not for me. You know, we called those wehicles "Bicykl" but it was in 1920s

We call it now with "rower" which is pronounced ['rohvehr] with a hard "r" of course and the "o" is like "a" in autumn. The etymology is simple - from the brand rover
A'propos the weather - we have an interesting name for umbrella: it's "parasol" - funny how it evolved - from being a sun protection (para sol) to rain protection

Maybe, because the weather changes quickly?

We actualy use the word 'parasol' ... e.g. if there's one in a café table. French for umbrella is parapluie, isn't it? "Against rain". Then there's parachute..."against falling".
Royston
p.s. nickname for umbrella is 'brolly'

A smaller pottery industry - most of it is made in the far east now - cheaper of course.
Typical isn't it:
Far East gets the pottery
China sends us coal after we shut our coal industry
Michelin moved the tyre making out of the city.
All call centres going to India.
Great government that allows that to happen.
No wonder Stoke is on its last legs

First they take Stoke, then they take The West. It is perfect Nemesis. "We" (western people) want all the shit, and we dont want to pay too much, and we don't care if the Chinese people making the stuff are working under terible conditions. So we send our gold to the east, and they send their plastic to us. It can not last forever ...
Sorry about going o.t.

You are still in better position than us - you have capitel (considering your words - yet) while we don't have it. And it's profitible for us to run business from low tax countries leaving there our non existing money

You may do a bit yet though Samplair. It is not that uncommon, that Danish companies move their production to Poland, if China after all is too far away. I know, those companies are not enough to keep Poland going, but it does indicate, that you may be more in the sweet spot, than we (danes) are ourselves.

Thanks for the consolation. But considering your words they are rather bitter globaly. We can't do anything about that after all
