In Logic 5.5.1 I recorded once 16 tracks 44.1 at 24bit with no problems. And it was on my old mobo asus p4te with 1.8 As I can remember well I had to set the latency to 34ms. Now i'm on p4p800 2.8 so I guess it must be possible too. I once did a playback test with 64 tracks 44.1 at 16 bit. The logic performance meter was still under 3/4 of max but I stopped because wouldn't use more than 64 tracks (or 32 tracks at 24 bit).
I don't know on what system you are but 10 tracks at 44.1 24 bit shouldn't give you any trouble with a powerfull computer and the right tweaks.

96 kHz?
I may have solved my problem although I'm not sure why yet.
I reinstalled Win XP, SFP and Sonar from scratch. No tweaks whatsoever. Just the basic XP install. Magically, I noticed a huge performance improvement. It could be that I had something tweaked wrong originally. Anyway, I'll be running some tests here in the next day or so to confirm things. If I can't get the system to hiccup with a basic install and no audio tweaks, I might just leave well enough alone. I'm wondering if all those internet audio tweaks really make a difference or make things worse. I guess it depends on your system configuration.

The only tweaks I'd always recommend sight unseen are:
-uninstall Msn messenger
-turn off system restore (it will cause problems with your drivers & dll's guaranteed)
-disable 'disk indexing' (will eat HD performance)
-disable screensavers & automatic updates (or anything that might eat cpu or 'automagically' ruin a perfectly good recording when u least need it by running)
If u want to go a step further:
-disable remote desktop completely
-disable remote registry access (its on!)
-optimize your running services (will reduce boot memory footprint a little to a lot).
Beyond these you're getting into more extreme tweaks, especially with arcane 'process set' optimizations or anything u need to delve into the registry for. When attempting to do anything that fits in this category do ONE tweak at a time and monitor the difference over a few days. Often if I notice little of no change I'll even undo the change 'just in case'.
Note:I've even gone back to having my computer optimized for 'programs' rather than 'background services' in System control panel because Logic (and even Nuendo) seem to do better. This may be on account of my dual xeons though...

I was able to record 14 tracks of audio yesterday at 24/48 which seemed like magic after all I went through. Probably could have kept going but didn't want to push my luck
However, attempts to record at 24/96 weren't as good. SFP reports an error message saying something like my project is too big or something to that extent. I had a mixer and a few effects loaded but not that much to trigger a problem. Has anyone seen that problem before?
