I got a 4790 waiting for me at the shop - though after initially reading the post I was going to ask them if they have a K model .... Now reading this I might just stick to the regular one ...
Good luck !
Please don't, there is an important difference in power and a little difference in price, get the K. Don't fear upgrading your board in case your BIOS does not accept it, it is in fact very simple, even in the most complex of ways, which is through windows. I will probably find a friend that has a spare or something 1150 processor he can handle me for one day, and that’s it.
The only thing you have to be sure about, is having a motherboard that will support it, with or without an update, but you'll find plainty of information about how doing the upgrade.

Unless you do extremely difficult and specific mathematical jobs, you will not need more than 1333 or 1600 SDRAM. All these 2400 and even 3200, are nothing but a way to pull your money out of your pocket. They are nothing but “sparkly theories”, without solid background, which has been proven not by more theories to contradict, but through testing hundreds of new system, even in the most demanding world, which is extreme gaming. In most cases, you are fine with 1600 sticks of good quality SDRAM. So I will not spend money going beyond what the market offers as a sweet spot in regard to SDRAM modules. What I have found out, in the other hand, is that if you have a lot of RAM, this can really help, even if it is 1333.

It is not a superb video card, but it does a good job and it is extremely efficient it really uses 60% less energy than most cards. For video editing, its 640 CUDA cores give you a fair amount of procesing power, but it is not as fast as many others in the market, it's Core clock is of 1033 MHz (base) 1111 MHz (boost), but this is what I can afford anyway and I am sure it is enough for a good production machine. It has not a power connector, like most PICE X16 cards, because of the very law power it consumes, so it can run very cold too and your power supply can be smaller too. Together with lots of RAM and a good CPU that can horse it, you have a powerful editing machine.
Of course, I would like to have a bigger video card, no doubt, but I don’t grief like many people seem to grief in video editing forums when commenting about rendering times. If I have to render something in 20 minutes in state of 17, I don’t really care about this small difference, and don’t actually need such a speed either. When I render something, I always do something else meanwhile, don’t you?, I don’t keep staring at the machine eating my nails, what some obsessed people tend to do while rendering… I am very comfortable with this specs.

sure.
the best supplies are rated for efficiency. bronze being the lower end of the good supplies, platinum being the higher end. the platinum supplies will be the most efficient and reliable generally. get the best supply you can afford.
Definitely, this is a lesson you taught me many years ago here in the Z Gary, and it was a verifiable really good advice everybody else should follow for their own benefit.
I never regret getting a good power supply, but without going to the sky either because today, you know, you have to sort out quality versus fashion.
I started with a Thermaltake 400W that was really good at that time, then a Cooler Master 500W, also very good.
I have been, nevertheless, reading and understanding better and better how a power supply works, the fallacy of the amounts of watts advertised versus the 12v lines, which are the most important, and so on. I found out that Seasonic is the base supplier and maker of many of the best power supplies out there, then I read many reviews, and it is very much respected, but I have never had one myself.
Z fellows, beware of the fact that you have to surpass the amount needed by a mere 100 to 200W, not more than that, or your efficiency goes away. And if you have an electrical failure in any component of the power supply, the bigger your power supply behind your system, the more you can end up burning something in your machine. So having a very big power supply it is not the best way to go, we have to search for a high quality and accurate amount power supply for our builds. Perhaps you already know, I just want to share my efforts so you don’t need to do the same in case you are building a system right now.

many Corsair PSUs are manufactured by Seasonic,- the better ones are !
Yes, is true, I have investigated and can confirm it. Seasonic is behind many of the best P.S. brands.
In regard to Corsair power supplies, Seasonic does the high end of their line with high grade Japanese capacitors, then some middle and low lines are build with Chinese components, rather middle to low quality. What Corsair does, like a few others like XFX, is to add a sticker to the units and sell them with their brand and name.
Seasonic are one of the best power supplies you can get, and if you go to the high end units in this brand, they probably are the very best in existence in the whole market, but quite expensive too.

I cannot hide it! Boxes are traveling to me from several places all around. I feel quite restless now... Exited to be more precise! How can I still feel like this? I feel like a teenager, really! I need to know what I will be able to do with it, how crazy my guitar is going to be with several heavy load plugins at the same time, wiehout restrictions. I don't know what it is to load as many plugins as you want yet, but I will!. I want to play the new synths (new for me, old for you, wealthy oligarchs of the first world! Just kidding brothers), like the famous minimax and the new modular, and I also want to try the mastering plugins of the 5.1 software... I should be calm, but I am not, I want it right now here, at home.
I would like to create new worlds of beauty in none existent places, build spaces in which I can be happy and hopefully, make happy someone else too. I want and need to get into these unknown fields of music that abstracts me for a few hours, out of this painful world in which every day I see more and more sorrow, and less and less mercy… I need music as a way to get away, eventually, from this realm to a peaceful one, which is within, reaching som equilibrium.

Well, it’s time for the new building to start. I have all the elements, only need to upgrade the BIOS
from 4th to 5th generation to be able to start, and I’m done.
The final elements of the building are:
MOBO: Asus Z87-C CPU: i7 4790-K VIDEO: Zotac Geforce GTX 750i 2GB Ram DDR5 SDRAM: 8GB X 2, Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz POWER SUPPLY: Seasonic S12 520 watts, 80 plus HARD DISK: Three WD black for operations and a WD green for backups. SCOPE: Two Pulsar 1, one with 4.5 software and the other with 5.1
(both with full cable connections)
Because of better overall performance, I will go with Win 8.1 64 bits, which I will heavily transform to my likes, most of all, the interface. It is true, Win 7 64 bits is the more stable of them all, but Win 8.1 gives more of itself and it has addressed many issues that are still there in Win 7. I have given myself to study this difference in depth. Win 8.1 has a better overall performance than Win 7, from 10 to 25 % average. Remember I will use this PC not only for audio, but for multimedia productions as well, I have to cover a wide range of operations.
From this PC I’m writing to you, and another old one, I will build a secondary machine for presentations, and because it is always handy to have a second PC if you get in trouble with the first one.
I have quite a few doubts about this building, I mean, about the procedure, because I have not build a new computer for quite some time already. There are not too many differences today, but I have never before, for instance, plugged two Pulsars together, etc. A new operating system will be also quite strange at first, I guess. The jump from Win XP to Win 8.1 must be pretty steep.
I will post here details, as soon and as much as possible, about the process of the building.
