One other solution could be something DIY.
Maybe one should combine already available components to achieve a low cost system or sub-system.

My first idea is to use together:
- a set of low cost MIDI controller (ranging form Behringer BCR/BCF, Novation remote Zero, or other midi control unit ... sucha as akai MPD-like controllers if one wish to setup a rythm tool).
=> Budget estimation: 150 to 300 €/$
- a low cost host (maybe an Atom based board to host Win XP together with some PCI slots without the need for too noisy Fan). I wish the netbooks could have some PCI slots.
=> Budget estimation : 200 to 400 €/$
- one or several small scope board (3/4 DSP) to manage the specific element you wish to setup.
=> Budget estimation: 100 to 300 €/$

The budget would range in the 550 to 1000 €/$ + time to setup the system and customize it.

Then just repack the whole stuff with some nice hardware customization. I once thought a microcontroller (Arm of even a small PIC) could manage tho whole stuff but Scope only work on a PC/MAC.
The ASB and the Plugiator are just some industrial example of such a solution but here you encounter the drawback of microcontroller versus PC-based solution: you loose much of the flexibility of Scope (but you keep the sound !!!).

You could achieve some nice tools dedicated to either setting up:
- a drum computer
- a modular synth system similar to
- your personnal ASB
- a smart mixing tool
- something completly new !!!

The different ASB + keyboard custom made design post on this forum could also be interesting as a source of inspiration.

Actually, this idea was behind my first (and only so far) scope synth plug the OSS107 which GUI is organized to be controlled with a BCR 2000. The only step to do forward would be to integrate the host PC and scope card together with the BCR.

I will keep on checking what is possible...

Well waiting is something I have grown accustomed to lately, but preparing and being ready by buying other peices of my mobile rig is now completed.
I found this collecting dust in Reno at a garage sale for 40 bucks !
It is old and dated, but it has the PSU and Manual, w/ a gig bag !!
It works well as a MIDI surface already.
Same size as my 17" Lenovo.
I would like something larger for bigger gigs later, but this using Scope mixers for playback, and tracking for VDAT is an immediate solution.
It works w/ Cubase and Reaper according to the manual and save templates too.
I was looking for some snow shovels and rain gear, so this was a bonus.
