Only one STM is fine.
Your second card should act as extra DSP only. Any extra devices registered to the new card should work fine. Just make sure you update your activation keys file before you install SFP.

if you want extra stdm cables check with yout dealer. only one is nessessary, but two is better. the price will be from free to $15.

I spoke to Ali at CreamWare last week and the "official" advice is: less is better. Apparently the more STDM cables you get, the more likely system instability is. Therefore stick to 1 unless you get a message that says something like:

Unable to route from board 0 to board 1

Unless you have a massive project, 1 cable will be more than enough. (By "massive project" I mean: hundreds of devices with virtual cables connecting them all. I'll post an example pic shortly.)

Cheers,

Johann
