Steckenleiter has a bit of an easier interface for downloading:
http://www.steckenleiter.de/
I don't know if I have the legal authority to do this (because of copyright) but... I could put together a ZIP file of the free device hierarchy I use (sorted into Midi, Effects, Mixer, Synths, and so on).
Maybe if I asked the develoeprs on a device-by-device basis?
I think a big "free device archive" ZIP file would be extremely handy.
Any opinions?
Cheers,
Johann

One dude (Boombatcha?) once posted an url to his website here, it contained a couple of .zip's with all freebies... If I remember well, he didn't put any credits or even info files in the zip. He didn't ask anyone, he just threw them on the web like that.
Found it a bit disrespectfull for all the people who put their hard work in developing the stuff.

at0m|c: I didn't see that ZIP, but I agree 100% about the respect issue. I'll start trying to collect "signatures" from the developers tonight.
Incidentally I keep the info files in my hierarchy because I can never remember what the device called "Celmo's Flaming Super XDZ5W 2000 Master Killer Pumpkin Filter" is supposed to do. (Just kidding Celmo, your devices actually have the most sensible names out there IMHO.)
A little text / HTML file on each developer, with a promotional blurb and link to their website, would also be good marketing for the developers, methinks.
Rogurt: I'll start working on this but don't hold your breath.
I do want to make sure this is done properly. Also I of course can't guarantee that I'll get *anyone's* permission, so...
If any developers happen to be reading this and have any opinions (pro or contra) on a "free device archive ZIP", feel free to PM me or email jtienhaara AT yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Johann

"Ring modulator with rotor and geometric oscil./sample inputs" (!)

I believe his name is Christian Lang and now he posted a summary on his forum:On 2004-06-24 13:21, at0m|c wrote:

You need to register before you can access this. Strange though, why become a member to read ?
But that's just my opinion.

I know Boombatcha, i don't think he's disrespectful at all. He has opened up a an artist section on his site where people can post their music and tings. So he's definately not just out for himself. On 2004-06-24 13:21, at0m|c wrote:

He's actualy a well respected artist.. released a couple o' tracks on the Sumsonic's FKA label in London and has also done alot of production for Baccardi Martini in France.
Sound as a pound if ya ask me !
the point wasn't what kind of guy Boombatcha is, but what he did (in that case). On 2004-08-21 21:34, Reynolds wrote:

To post copyrighted material without asking the author is respectless in the true sense of the word.
There may be a good reason why one or the other program has been taken offline by it's author.
btw selflessness is the virtue I distrust most, but that's just a personal opinion...

cheers, tom

Thanks Ken! Just to clarify, what do you mean by "patches"? Do you have Modular modules? Or presets? Or etc.
So far I've only got 4 developers onboard. I suspect my 1st email got anti-spammed
and I haven't gotten around to giving it another try.
If any developers are interested in having their free devices + demos bundled into one big "freescope" package, please PM me or email jtienhaara AT yahoo DOT com.
In the meantime I'll get back on the ball with this.
The 1st 4 developers' plugins are ready to go and about 1/2 the text is ready (not yet approved by the develoeprs though). Maybe I'll release a "beta" first and try to attract more developers that way?
Suggestions comments etc welcome.
Thanks Ken! Cheers,
Johann
