Noah WinXP Control Panel

Post by MrV »

Hi ,
I purchased a Noah EX last year but have had very little time to play with it . Initially with "screen scrambled" which was solved thanks the kind folks in here ...it was a faulty PSU ... put another in , all fixed.

I'm running Noah v1.1 but I'm wondering if I didn't install it correctly?

I purchased an old WinXP SP3 laptop just to run Noah and the Noah control panel connects and seems to be working ....but ...when I look in the Noah hardware there in no hardware or hardware serial no.
The box is blank.
I think I forgot to Disable Driver Signing when I installed the 3 drivers.
Would this be a reason why it's only "kind of working" ?

As in Scope , Noah has its own folder in the WinXP C drive ...there no installed "program" as such and no evidence of drivers installed anywhere ?? Thinking that if I had to reinstall properly I should delete all traces of this previous installation first ?
I've got Revo Uninstaller in the XP system but there's no.evifemce of Noah or drivers anywhere....

Should I just reinstall it all over the top ?

Thanks , Michael

What does "seems" mean?

You mean, in NOAH Settings > Update (page 33 in Noah Remote Editor manual), you don´t see any "version number of the operating system currently present in the Noah hardware" ?

And in the NRE´s Module Registry window there´s no hardware serial number present ?
MrV wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:11 pm I think I forgot to Disable Driver Signing when I installed the 3 drivers.

Disable driver signing is essential when installing the Noah drivers via software v1.1 installation process on WinXP SP3.
Ideally, ALL drivers,- USB, Wave and ASIO should install properly under Win XP SP3.
I myself got it right for my NoahEX once I had disabled driver signing.
The machine works well since then (and except the "Profit-5 bug" which seems to be set in stone).

On my WinXP SP3 Acer laptop, I installed everything into C:\Noah.
Following the path C:\Noah\Noah\IF\devices\ ... you should see all the into Noah hardware installed devices .
Following the path C:\Noah\OS\Release_1.4.23\IF\Devices\ ... you should see ´em too.
"IF" means "internal flash"(memory).
This is Noah hardware !
Do you see the Noah OS release version number ?
If not, you don´t have the latest available or a lower version Noah OS installed.

Don´t mistake Noah OS version and version of Noah Remote Editor software !
MrV wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:11 pm I've got Revo Uninstaller in the XP system but there's no.evifemce of Noah or drivers anywhere...
Don´t use any 3rd party uninstaller software !
I had very bad experiences w/ such tools.

With the installation of Noah software, a uninstaller is created.
This is what you use to uninstall v1.1 NRE software.
MrV wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:11 pm Should I just reinstall it all over the top ?
No !

When you don´t find the uninstaller,- and/or Windows XP doesn´t too,- the system is crapped out already.
I had this situation when trying to install NRE software 1.1 and drivers WITHOUT disabling driver signing on my WinXP rackmount machine,- and it stucked forever when I tried to uninstall the not propperly installed stuff.
That ruined the machine, wiped many programs from programs folder and shortcut icons of other software from desktop.

You better go and install WinXP SP3 on your laptop all new,- disable driver signing and then install Noah v1.1 incl. drivers by precisely following the instructions.

But,- for all this to be successful,- your NoahEX itself needs to work perfect.

When you don´t have the latest Noah OS installed, you only get it by reflashing the machine,- but that´s another story.

Thanks Budweiser for getting back with that info .

What I mean by "seems to be working" is that all Noah synths / devices are working properly in various configurations outputting audios ,assigned to whichever output busses etc
But ...when I look in the editor at the Noah Hardware device ( same as we do in Scope or S-C ) where you would normally see a Card Serial Number ./ DsP load etc ...that box is empty.
Apparently there is no Noah hardware according to the editor software?
Which is ridiculous because the Noah is working. v1.1
Could this be because I installed without Driver Signing disabled ?

By the way ...I've never had any issues uninstalling with Revo because it also cleans up those pesky left over items that can cause trouble and other uninstallers will often miss.

Cheers , Michael

ps I just checked..
Yes it the Noah Module Registry .
It's blank ...nothing in there.

And when I open WinXP then power on the Noah I'm getting the Found New Hardware wizard...which I assume wouldn't be happening if the drivers were installed correctly ?

pps update

Sorry to be so vague with this , haven't looked at Noah in a while .

So the Noah is v1.1 and the Editor software is v1.4.23 2003/10/16

In the Module Registry there IS now Serial Number for installed hardware but nothing for any installed modules. I'm assuming "installed modules" means devices such as Minimax , SixString , B2003 , Lightwave etc yes ? These instruments , except Pro_One , all load but they are not showing up in the Module Registry.

AFAIK,- "Found New Hardware wizard" appears when OS is looking for drivers.

Noah hardware OS version should appear in Noah´s display too.
ATM I´m unsure if it will appear when powering up Noah or if there was/is a menu diving necessary,- so please check yourself and double check if that´s the latest available version.

When Windows is searching for drivers, Noah(EX) cannot sync w/ editor´s host computer perfectly or not at all.
Maybe that´s why you won´t see installed and registered device´s activation keys in "Module Registry".
Just a guess ...

Again,-
re-install WITH driver signing disabled !

It´s not only a matter of "it all works (somehow)" ...
All the devices have to be installed on Noah hardware as also on the host computer.
That´s why there are separate path for Noah IF (internal flash) and Noah software.
Did you double check if all is where it should be ?

Here´s HOW TO install NOAH plugins:

1.
Create a shortcut on your desktop from this location "C:\Noah\App\Bin\PluginInstaller.exe"

2.
Drag the necessary OXE files to PluginInstaller.exe shortcut you created on the desktop

3.
You should get messages appearing from the application that you need to synchronize but it tends to take care of itself

Syncronization is IMPORTANT !
Here´s how it looks on my Acer WinXP laptop when successful:

Thanks Bud ,
I was running Noah last night in multimode in to my Scope system...4 devices all running and outputting ok thru the Noah Mixer as displayed in XP ...then suddenly the mixer went blank but Noah was still outputting on 4 busses.
So , given that , and the no software devices showing in the Noah registry I'd say my WinXP installation is faulty.
It's definitely Not synchronised!

Thanks for the info , will reinstall as per yr steps.

Ok , so I decided to reinstall the Editor software.
I have the Noah v1.1 installation disc.
I uninstalled via the Uninstaller in the C:\Noah folder .
But after reinstalling the old drivers must still be there because when turning on the Noah it's not looking for any drivers .
( Driver signing disabled, in fact it always was ! )
And when I opened the Editor the same mixer setup from before I reinstalled appeared again .
So how do I actually remove the 3 Noah drivers ?
Reinstalling Windows XP is not really an option because I bought this laptop just for Noah and I don't have the Windows installation disc.
Maybe I could uninstall again then go in to the Windows System folder and manually delete the 3 drivers , would that work ?.

I´m typing from my head in my office always,- no gear nearby, no NoahEX.

So, if I understand correctly, Noah Remote Editor software is uninstalled now,- right ?
Just the drivers are left over ...

Did you go into WinXP device manager,- I guess,- audio/video/ game controllers ... and had a look for the drivers ?
There should be MIDI, Wave, ASIO drivers,- and possibly in the USB section (usually the very last at the bottom of the device manager tree), there could also be an entry for Noah USB,- but I´m not sure if it´s been gone when Noah USB is disconnected.
Anyway ...
Disconnect Noah(EX) from computer,-
now search for everything Creamware Noah in device manager and right-click the driver(s).
There should be options for update, uninstall, re-install etc..
So, once found,- uninstall the drivers.

I always used CCleaner on my machines.
It wipes obsolete/outdated registry entries.
Never had an issue w/ the application.
Here´s the latest version working w/ WinXP / Vista ... https://archive.org/details/ccleaner-5.64-xp-vista

Install and clean the registry, then re-install.

BUT,- I´m now also irritated because "disable driver signing" was enabled always.
So, I don´t have any idea why your Noah rig doesn´t work as it should.

Are you really sure everything Noah hardware and what´s installed in it´s flash memory is working correctly ?

My NoahEX runs flawlessly because I started from scratch and reflashed NoahEX before I installed any software and synchronized.

Thanks again Bud ,
I'll check those things .
What I find weird here is that with the Noah software ...there's no sign of it in Add/Remove Programs ...or in Revo Uninstaller... there's no mention of any Creamware program ...but that's crazy ,it IS an installed program, so why is it invisible to Windows XP?

Anyway will look for those drivers and start again.

I really hope your laptop w/ the Win XP installation isn´t a mess.
It might be wrong,- but I´ve read, today it´s impossible to activate a legal copy of WinXP when setting up all new.

Yes I was thinking that too.
How can Noah be installed yet not show up in Add Remove Programs ?
I'll check..

https://www.simplehelp.net/2009/09/15/h ... -programs/

Point 4.) and 5.) in this tutorial might help.

At least, you could try to have a look if the Noah related stuff is listed together w/ the word "hide".
The overall tutorial is about removing Windows Messenger as the example, just because some Windows stuff isn´t listed in add/remove programs and appears in Windows start menue only.
So,- when you remove,- just only the start menue entry is deleted nd not the application itself.

And,- can be you´re (or were) not alone ...
https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads ... st-7990649

Uninstaller filename length can be a reason for applications not appearing in add/remove programs tool.
Seems there´s no other solution than wading thru the registry and deleting everything (in your case) Creamware Noah related manually as also the complete installation on C:/.

Or,- you format disk and install a WinXP SP3 "c##ck" and everything Noah all new.

Next alternative:
Install Win 7 32Bit, then install Noah remote Editor software 1.1 incl. drivers.
USB and MIDI will work, but WAVE and ASIO might not or won´t work because there were changes in regards of MME/Direct Music or whatelse in Win7 and compared to XP.
In Win 7, you might run Noah software in XP compatibility mode or in a virtual machine.

Thanks Bud ,
I've always had great results using Revo Uninstaller, never a problem especially for left over items which other methods leave behind ,but what concerns me here is that Revo is not seeing Noah either .
Apart from that this WinXP system seems totally fine .
I saw that Gary mentioned it has to be XP for Noah ,no other system.
There must be some way to get this working.
I'll try yr suggestion of CCleaner, maybe the registry cleaner will sort out those left over items ? ( hence XP "remembering" my previous Noah Mixer setup despite the new Noah installation )
Thanks for the links will check it out .
Cheers

Hi !

I looked into my Noah WinXP laptop.
Nothing visible in add/remove software too.
No SCOPE uninstaller visible.
So, it´s all like it is on your machine, except,- everything runs fine here.

I investigated in the installed SCOPE application itself,- and when you go to Noah > application > app (I now hope that was the correct path) folder,- there´s a subfolder called "uninstaller app".
When you look into that folder,- there´s a .pro file.

But,- I dunno what to do with it ´cause I never ever uninstalled the Noah Remote Editor application from my laptop up to now.

And it seems,- EVERYTHING not being installed in the Win XP programs folder won´t be recognized in add/remove programs.
Consequently,- Noah being installed directly on C: cannot be recognized.

It’s because it’s not an installshield or similar installation routine that follows the MS defined paths for installation, registry keys and ini files for uninstalling.

Is that the same as a "mobile installation" ?
For example I have Vegas 18 set up as a mobile installation...it could be on a USB stick , in my instance it's in its own folder on my C drive ...same as Noah is .

Just for the case ...
HOW TO uninstall then ?

The Noah drivers also only appear in device manager w/ Noah powered up and being connected to computer via USB.

Uninstall drivers via device manager and w/ Noah and NRE application running ?
Then simply delete the Noah-folder from drive C: ?

:-?
