Intel 6th/7th generation Motherboards

Post by fidox »

Hey there,

I'm thinking to upgrade my second computer and since I have one Intel i7 6700 CPU waiting in my closet,
any ideas for 6th/7th generation mobos with 3 PCI slots.

I already have one computer with intel i7 7700k and Gigabyte mobo with 3pci slots (GA-Z170-D3H), but can't find this model second hand anymore (ebay ....).
Maybe any other recommendations for mobos or maybe where to check, beside ebay, which sites , stores, located in Europe ?

I'm using a Supermicro X11SSA-F which is compatible with Intel 7th/6th Gen CPU's and E3-1200 v6/v5 Xeons. I use a E3-1285, and the system onl lists Unbuffered ECC UDIMMs as supported memory, so I have 64GB of said memory. Not sure how that works with non-Xeons, most likely the ECC feature is disabled but the board still requires those same ECC UDIMMS to boot. Note again this is NOT the same as *Registered* ECC UDIMMS.

No complaints at all, and I purchased another version of this same board for my Xite box which only has PCIe slots, running an E3-1280 and the same RAM configuration.

I use MSI Z170A GAMING M3 with i7 6700K. At the beginning have audio dropouts until disable HPET driver in windows. My system Pulsar II + Luna, Scope 5.1, Windows 10 LTSC 64bit.

I haven't needed to do any BIOS changes to either system, though I did change PCI priority on the system with 4 PCI slots.
