PC cleaning, necessary ?

Post by spacef »

Hi all,
Gonna upgrade to win 10 later this month (yes, I am still on win7)

I will clean the PC internal, removing dust. I was wondering if a spray to clean electronic components is a good thing ?
Like to clean PCIe connectors, sata connectors, and spray everything.
I don't think I've used one of those before.
Link in french but german brand.
eg https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B08HH7 ... NB96&psc=1
Thanks !

NO

https://www.amazon.fr/s?k=caig+deoxit&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Caig De-Oxit 100% for nasty cleanup (badly oxidized, corroded etc).

Caig De-Oxit 5% for normal contacts, there's a Gold 5% version too for Gold contacts.

If you search the forums, you'll find a thread that discusses contact cleaner, Deoxit and something called Stabilant 22 (iirc).

Compressed Air / Argon is good too. No pump based air compressors, they can blow moisture and if a metal tank also corroded metal bits from the inside.

Thanks Valis. I will wait for those. The compressed air stuff is cool, did not know them.
The "dry air" bombs are not ideal indeed, a lot of moisture comes out.
Makes me think I have a mini vacuum cleaner somewhere with a reversible motor, it can blow air out. will look for it and try it to remove dust.

be careful with vacuum cleaners. the tips of the cleaning wands tend to build a static charge.

all went fine, I did not need to blow dust.
used a vacuum cleaner with a small brush around the nose, and did not vacuum the motherboard or PCI cards. only the radiators, fans, case...
