MultiTrackStudio - DAW supports MIDI 2 and MPE

Post by dante »

First DAW to support both MIDI 2 and MPE :

https://cdm.link/2021/03/midi-2-0-in-a- ... sbH-sxPNCA

You'll likely need one of these though :

Think I’ll try the free Lite version.
My needs are minuscule compared to most.

Thanks dante. It's not terribly expensive, and might make for an interesting workflow to record a part with that full expression alongside their normal workflows.

I´ve just read in the manual ...
Advantage:
It supports MIDI sysex and comes w/ a sysex editor.
Might be useful when using some vintage outboard gear.
But then, I´d need a MIDI interface supporting 64Bit systems and doesn´t corrupt MIDI sysex data like the Steini MIdex-8 does w/ it´s "unsupported" 64Bit driver.

When I have enough time, I´ll try the "Multitrack-Studio" too.
I wanna get rid of Presonus Studio One 4 Pro which introduces GUI issues w/ Sonic Projects OP-X Pro II, Toontrack Superior Drummer 3 and the Cherry Audio Modular (free basic version), Eight-Voice, Polymode, the Juno-106 emulation and the ARP2600 emulation as well as the free "radio shack" MOOG emulation.
Issues mean: When plugin´s GUI is open and/or virtual keyboard keys and pitch/mod levers animated (the latter in OP-X ProII) there are pops and clicks.
GUI closed,- all gone.
Essential OpenGL version is supported by Intel graphics (iGPU).

This happens w/ Win7 Pro x64, SCOPE/XITE, Z97 and only in Studio One Pro,- not Reaper, Traktion 7 or Reason 10.4 / 11.3.9 and using iGPU (Intel graphics).
I have no chance updating Studio One to v5.2 or higher when not upgrading that machne to Win10 and I won´t.
Scope/XITE v7.0 as an audio interface runs fine for me w/ Win7 Pro as also latest NI Komplete 12 Ultimate Collectors edition updates still do.

I still get MIcrosoft Win7 updates,- not security,- but runtimes and other.
The last I got was a few days ago.

And I still wait for SCOPE v7.1 while I sometimes lose hope for it will appear at all.

MIDI-2:
Well, I don´t think the masterkeyboard is the most important part of the game.
Isn´t it,- all the connected outboard hardware MIDI instruments/modules and all the VIs should support MIDI-2 too before it makes sense jumpin´ on that train ?

:)

Still learning MIDI 1# here. Roland Controller seems to be nice but with Scope MIDI devices I don’t see a need for higher resolution.

Definately need MIDI-2 VST's (the stepping on Shreddage Slide gittar sucks) - but I'd also buyed a cheaper MIDI-2 keyboard if they came out, otherwise no easy way to use extra expressions when not wanting to draw a bunch of lines in DAW piano roll

The Roland looks nice though, Id prefer 64 keys version - 88 means I have to punch hole in wall somewheres

So... you're saying MPE/Midi 2.0 is evidence that electronic has been taken over by people who largely do sound design?

No, what you're actually saying is most people are as proficient as Vangelis so they clearly need MPE + 2.0, got it.

well, for what it's worth, I enjoy drawing MPE curves over some ambient chords/pad in Ableton with Wavetable. Just beautiful...
It won't take too long before more budget friendly/smaller keyboards will hit the market.
A mate I haven't seen in a while is Clavia/Roli rep for Benelux. Maybe he can hook me up with a small ex demo seaboard. As beautiful as a Linnstrument is, it's just too expensive.

Linnstrument is amazing, powerful, and worth every penny. My playing skills on it, alas, are not at all amazing (yet) Also, Roger Linn is a very nice gentleman, I still can't quite believe I had an email exchange with him.

I always liked this Pedal Steel ported over from Gigastudio to Kontakt.
He understands the global/isolated bends of the various string combinations.
New version due out soon is cheap and looks/sounds great.

Are you mates with Dago? Just talked to him a few weeks ago at a concert in Antwerp (Het Bos).

I heard Roger Linn doing a decent rendition of “Teach Your Children Well” on his Linnstrument w/MPE using a Pedal Steel Guitar sampled instrument.

Pretty impressive separate string bends.

If MPE tricks like that can be pulled off it could be exciting..

Yeah, he’s becoming real proficient with his own instrument, it’s a doozie. I confess to enjoying his Linnstrument too, light fingering evokes immense emotion.
I wonder which DAW he uses?

Thanks for the heads up on mulititrackstudio.
