How to identify the I/O Plate (Classic vs Plus)

Post by sunmachine »

To use the correct breakout cable with your Scope card, you have to know which type of I/O Plate is on your card.
The cable whip with RCA connectors is for the Classic I/O Plate and the one with the AES/XLR connectors is for the Plus I/O Plate.
Don’t use the wrong breakout cable!

To identify an I/O Plate you can use the following picture of a Plus I/O Plate for comparison.
The Plus I/O Plate comes with some additional chips and caps.
The most noticable chip is the big one labeled 1601 (near the top of the photo).

There’s another photo with both I/O plates side by side in this thread. It’s somewhat blurry, though.

You actually don’t have to unmount the I/O Plate from the card to identify it.
Just have a close look at the right spot for that 1601 chip.
Maybe the following picture gives a rough idea how and where to look.

Here's a photo of the other sort of IO plate for comparison (albeit with replaced capacitors)
