Funny how almost every comment says the same thing, 2 percent of global HUMAN emissions from air-traffic is already tiny compared to the volcano. That 2% of human output being reduced by some percentage is smaller still, making the headline retarded. Great spin indeed.

I still find it interesting how polarizing this topic is, since I think aside from the agendas spinning this play into a polarized lense we still seem to mostly agree that noone has a clue what's in store for the future aside from varied weather & occasional natural catastrophes.

almost as funny as the article I saw the other day that basically said that climate change caused the volcano to erupt.

The dome warms and blows, and melts ice, and they blame the eruption on the ice melting.

Either way, they're going to push through cap-n-trade - especially in Europe, so we'll be taxed because the volcano blew.

....and no, CO2 is not the issue. It's the fluoride and other chemicals that now threaten cattle.

I don't hate scientists, so stop squeezing people into your narrow view of the world.
Some of my best friends that I grew up with are now scientists at NOAA, GOES, and NASA - and they are now whistleblowers against the climate change zealots.
No guns here either, and I'm not paranoid, and not on any pharmaceutically induced fog.

I really only hate ignorance.

Yup it gets polarizing. As for the Volcano vs planes over europe issue, the estimated amount of CO2 emitted from the volcano varies between 150.000 to 300.000 metric tons pr day, while the average emission from planes in europe is somewhere between 400.000 - 500.000 metric tons pr day.

Of course not all flights over europe has stopped. But it might put things in the correct perspective.

I am afraid Jimmy seems to be a bit more forth thinking than you seem to be on this subject. IF Katla decides to blow, as is sort of way overdue, you should consider that parts of Katla is currently covered with up to 800 meters of snow and ice, which is a whole other scenario than a "naked" one (it will probably take more than 12 hours from a volcano erupts until it breaks the ice).

For the eruption itself is more dramatic as the ice will condensate, bringing the ashes farther up as it is "fueled" by the steam. The surrounding melted ice will have a drop of between 600-800 meters, before it reaches the steps beneath. an estimated flow of approx 200.000m3/s is expected, while it might reach up to 300.000 or even 400.000m3/s.

For a comparison, wikipedia states "the combined average discharge of the Amazon, Mississippi, Nile, and Yangtze rivers is about 266,000 m³/s (9.4 million cu ft/sec)."

Main worry or concern is cattle and other food supply impact much more-so than atmospheric.

There are droves of researchers who are getting permission to set up camp in Iceland and really concentrate on what will be the major factor in future climate estimations.
Other Volcanos like Hawaii are of concern because of the Tsunami factor, but Icelands Volcano has the ability to really change the Atlantic current and the tempurature, and at the same time can emit enough Ash to block out the Sun.
It seems as though we have just enough extra ice melting to " regulate " the tempurature which in recent years has been too warm, which many believe is the reason for the last decades Hurricanes.
So this upcoming Hurricane season is being predicted to be mild.
Us puny little humans are never going to be able to control the C02 emmissions, or the un spoken disappations ( trees and plantlife & Ocean absorbtion rates ) that occur. Nor can we regulate the Atlantic current or its tempurature.
I assume Cap & Trade will pass becasue of the amount of taxes it will generate for the spending addicts in DC. Will the Planets tempurature change from paying these taxes.....??
