upgraded Screen size ;)
just wanted to share how great a big screen is for scope and sdk and all other stuff.
As these screens have become that cheap I really can recommend it for working and other stuff...
its a Samsung 2343BW with 2048 x 1152 / 60 Hz.
brightness is not perfect all over the display and viewing angle is also not th best. But its a great price for 200 bucks...

Re: upgraded Screen size ;)
I am not using it for scope but the 24" samsung i got was 2443? or something like that
the resolution is 1920x1200 im not sure why they make 2 that are so close but different,
anyways apart from that its nice except the annoying touch buttons it looks like yours has them as well not so great in a dark studio lol.
anyways i like it enough im getting another one for scope.
siriusbliss nice! what video cards are doing that?

It's in my signature:Neutron wrote:siriusbliss nice! what video cards are doing that?
GeForce 7200 GS
The VGA runs 3 monitors via TripleHead2Go, and the DVI runs the 28" Dell (which I also use for video editing).
The GeForce and Dells can be acquired for cheap nowadays.

Re: upgraded Screen size ;)
I've got 3 monitors that do 1920x1200 here, all on different pc's. My main pc is the only machine with more than 1 monitor, well except the 2nd monitor is shared with a laptop and an HD-DVDR (recording/playback unit connected to my cable). Having used at minimum 1600x1200 for years I have a hard time finding enough 'room' for my application control on smaller resolutions. The wider aspect of widescreen monitors is really useful for applications that have timelines (like audio sequencers) as well as 3d/graphics apps that have 'toolbars' and 'palettes' on the side of the screen.
There was a series of antitrust court cases recently in the US based around price fixing for the major lcd makers. One or two people went to jail I believe. It's interesting how at the start of these proceedings the monitors started dropping in price dramatically, and now 6-8 months later I see an incredible number of units on the market available for half of what they were 2 years ago. Of course the bottom-most monitors are not only TFT but usually 6-bit panels as well (the reduced overhead of this is usually marketed as 'sub 2ms' or 'sub 5ms' timings which is something that anyone doing graphics should take note of). But it's still incredibly cheap for these things now.

I must say I'm very pleased with my Samsungs too - a 2232 and a 2253.
What a difference dual monitors and decent sized monitors make.
I noticed that your concentration levels are helped by cigs and booze
What is it? Cider, peach schnapps?
Anyway, pass me a glass over.

Re: upgraded Screen size ;)
Funny, I was going to make a similar post myself this morning.
Just this week got 2 22" widescreen monitors and am loving the difference it makes.

1920x1200 is 16:10, while newer models ahave a 16:9 ratio.Neutron wrote:I am not using it for scope but the 24" samsung i got was 2443? or something like that

I have a 16:10 samsung, too, but I wanted a more relaxed dot pitch, so I got myself the 2693HM. ah yes, and this has 3 different sources to switch between, 2 of them digital. that was another essential criteria for me...
congrats, katano, nevertheless
what's that on your screen? some new devices for us?

I also have two 22" screens (DVI) for about 4 months and it's very nice and clarifying to have both sequencer and scope routing window / scope plugins in front of you at the same time.
Re: upgraded Screen size ;)
well, these are ugly (imho), and they don't offer the physical adjustment possibilities others have. well, I didn't ever use pivot either, but the height adjustment of my display is quite comfortable.stardust wrote:what about the samsung t260 ?
see them in a shop, touch 'em, feel 'em, and then make your decision.
if you can get one with real knobs instead of sensor buttons, grab it while you can. they are mostly hard to read / distinguish in a dim lit environment. maybe you also want to avoid the mirror finish some frames have (mine has, too, but I can live with it).

Thanks for the carefully staged photo Boris.
Re: upgraded Screen size ;)
The perfectly tilited envelope was awesome Bro.
Hey thanks for the tips though. I have visual proof of what I know I will be needing for XITE-1 as far as screen size goes.
I have no need for any tweaks while I play as the screen just shows large meters of various audio stems, but when I program at home using 32 channels of MIDI, FOH / Monitoring and VDAT playback/recording, my little 19" is totally worthless anymore.
A very enlightening and entertaining thread.

My guess is that it's something to do with the passes for Messe that are neatly placed stage left.stardust wrote:And it seems that hifi is thinking about his retirement reading the letter on the right.

haha
the paper has nothing to do with messe.
its just my normal chaos i`m living in.... hehee
If you interested in a new monitor, also have a look at the new HP L2445 business display.
Normally HP displays are yquite nice manufactured and have a good quality. I thought about it too.
Its also cheap. But i wanted something dirt-cheap.
So I go for the Samsung. I think you get what you pay for. The Samsung isn`t perfect. But its not bad for the money.
The HP 2445 is 300 bucks by the way. Also not that expensive for that size.
And i like the design.
