Jew's Harp

Post by dawman »

I had a silly idea after listening to some up tempo Bluegrass, which always makes me smile, and I couldn't help noticing what a great sound it could be for synth/dance music. The rhythms are captivating and I wish to experiment.
But I never use free stuff as it tends to make me nervous.
But I had to try this and I cannot get a single sound out of it.
Does anyone have time to try this and see if it works?
I am in a hurry to get to work and will mess with this again later.

I tried to make one in Solaris w/ the Formant Filters and the Tube Filter and I do have the initial sound, but this would require some serious EG & EG Loop Envelope work and still be difficult tackling.
But I do enjoy a challenge.

Thanks In Advance.

These days your supposed to call it a "jaw harp" :D
i would think it might be something like a single note of a sample like a twangy electric piano (its the same kind of metal vibrating tine)
going through a formant filter or which you modulate.

the plugin works fine, and unlike the real thing you can play different notes on it. I just used FL to test it because i use it to check out vsti before i put them on my DAW

Unfortunately velocity does not change the filter, which you would think would make sense considering how one plays the jews harp. (i have one )

Thamks Neutron,
I will try and find out why I couldn't get it goping.
It loaded up and was detected immediately by Bidule.

I just got home from work so I have time to mess with it now.
Thanks for your help and looking into this.

It doesn't respond to any channel other than MIDI Channel #1.
I always demo w/ omni.
Should have figured this out quicker.
This has a strange sound, not even close to what I heard last weekend.
This guy was jamming along to some dance stuff at the club sitting next to us at the Bar, and I was enjoying it very much. Gave me an idea for a tune.
This chap was hysterical actually as I have never seen a guy pick up on chicks using a Jews Harp before. He would walk up and stand there acting as if he wanted to engage in a conversation, and would just keep playing his axe.

This thing sucks IMHO, as everytime I try a free VSTi 9 out of 10 are lame.
We have a much higher success rate w/ our beloved SDK guys, and much better quality too.
I decided to just use the Tube Filter, and Formant Filters in Solaris and see what I come up with.

Correctomundo.
Sorry about posting in the wrong place.
Lack of sleep.
But Scope works fine and Solaris will outdo the samples from a weak VSTi.
