Bricasti Model 7.......To Die For.

Post by dawman »

SOSPUBS has a damn fair review on the Model 7. As usual some lucky Bastard over there got to keep it probably. It's a months pay, but I have to get one.....can't seem to find one on ebay. :D

But as Casey and Bricasti promised upgrades will be forthcoming. Just like Lexicon had the awesome LARC for the high end L series reverbs, the Model 7 has a new controller that looks to be quite sweet as well.

If Holger and the boys do a good job w/ the 5.1 reverb, they can save me 5 large. I am not counting on that though.

I guess I need to start pimpin' again. :D

Unfortunately not! One of my many jobs is making sure everything we review goes back to its rightful owner — basically, I get that brief moment of bliss when you open up a brand-new toy, and then I have to send it back a few weeks later (usually without even hearing it in action! Though I do try and give some of the more interesting toys a whirl, if the manufacturers/distributors don't mind me holding onto it for a week extra).

The Bricasti was not one of the ones I got to play with, sadly, but everyone who's ever heard one says the same: Unbeatable.

Cheers!

Just read the review today & it sounds amazing. If Paul White says he's never plugged in a better reverb unit, my guess is that he at least wanted to keep the review model. :D

I think I might have just heard a recording of Faith Hill singing the NFL Sunday Night Game using a Model 7. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb08/a ... astim7.htm
I must have it !!
I shall try to record this next Sunday as it is an amazing effect if my assumptions are correct.
I was listening and watching her as she is an amazing natural beauty. Just jeans and a white shirt, but nobody wears jeans better than this Lass,
Anyway I always try and guess what effect is being used on solo instruments and especially vocals. Her vocal is an ambience preset of a top dollar verb, that I must admit I cannot tell what unit it is. It is not the regular ambiences heard in TC's or Lexicons.
The vocals are perfectly on top of the mix and while I noticed a Limiter was being used since there were " 0 " dynamics, just a rock mix of Balls to the Walls type of mix. But there was this slight ambience which was so hard to describe. It seemed to grow and shrink at times but had no chorusing or tails what so ever.
This is very similar to what the Country Western groups are using lately. I have noticed this before, but never really listened as the Joe Bob stuff just is so tiring, like pop rap and hip hop, one always knows what to expect with the tune.
But yes I am weak for the oppisite sex still, and this caused me to focus more than I normally would. The NFL mix is way different from the Nashville sounding Yoddlers.

I think I might rather have Faith Hill than a Model 7, but I'm undecided. It's a dilemma, but I'll try not to dwell ... :D

To be fair to Paul White, SOS & last but not least the guys at Bricasti, I really think that if Paul White says he's never plugged in a better Reverberation unit, that's exactly what he thought. Afaik, this guy has test driven, reviewed & often owned most of the best reverbs ever made, so I somehow feel that I need to trust him on this subject. Tell me if I'm being mislead. :)

I think Warp's said he loves it as well. Can't remember his exact words off hand though..

It is the best Hall reverb and I´m really looking forward to version 2 which have a new algorithm :

V2.0 has several new preset banks which use our second algorithm. This second algorithm is our attempt to advance the art in larger than life reverb effects. It is rich in deep chorusing and subtle cascading echos. For simplicities sake it uses the very same parameter set as V1.0, but the feel is very different.

V2.0 also provides the ability to decorrelate the sounds of up to 3 M7s. This is useful when using multiple M7s in surround applications.

Lastly, V2.0 adds 4 simple delays that can be used with or without the reverb. Each delay has a level, delay time, pan and tone parameter. Each delay also has a wet/dry mix which controls how much of the delay is sent into the reverb and how much is sent in parallel with the reverb. Very much like the Lexicon algorithms.

Cheers

I think it's just a free software update. That's just a guess though because it was mentioned in the SOS review that the hardware might get a software update at some point.

Thats correct - its a free software update - new eproms. It will be released around December - hopefully. The M7 will have a lifespan of 10 years according to Bricasti - they'll released several updates for the unit.
